The title of this particular opus is quite misleading to be honest. It does mention the words "Epic" and "Cinematic" but says nothing about "Genius", "Brilliant", "Incredible", "Magical", "Emotional", "Inspirational", "Sublime", "Perfection" or "Beautiful". Did I mention genius? This performance is all of those things and so much more. The production values are off the scale as usual. But then again all of your performances are absolutely exquisite, so it's a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. The entire catalogue of your songs leave me breathless, joyous and inspired. I thank you for sharing your gift.

I love the atmosphere of the uncanny mixed with magic in this video and I think this shows there is a lot of mileage in this story for companies prepared to think innovatively. I would like to see a much darker and adult version of the Nutcracker. There are so many interesting influences coming together here. I love the re-orchestration of Tchaikovsky's score and there are elements of the original Blade Runner, Pinocchio, Coppelia and Metropolis.

Nutcracker in 3D (Nutcracker the Untold Story) is a darker fantasy version (at least in some ways) but I am not sure if it is adult enough for you. I like that it has some scary themes but that Mary (her name in that version, not Marie or Clara) and the Nutcracker Prince are both played by real children (well, the part where he's a real boy anyway, the puppetlike version of him was actually voiced by a woman).

Did you know that Coppelia is actually loosely based on "The Sandman" which is a story by the same author as the Nutcracker story? So, then, yes, they *should* have some similar elements. ^___^ I hadn't thought of Pinocchio specifically in connection with The Nutcracker but now I'm surprised that I hadn't before. (Real boy? Carved wooden boy? Oh. Yes. Duh. 😉 Why didn't I think of that? ^__^) In the original story the Nutcracker is actually Drosselmeyer's real life human nephew who has been transformed by magic into a wooden toy. So, kind of the *opposite* of Pinocchio then. Still a similar story in some ways though. ^___^

"The Sandman" could be considered to be a darker fantasy work by the same author. Actually it's a bit questionable as to *is* it fantasy or is the main male character just insane, or both sort of. I think you might want to read it sometime. Or, you could always just listen to it being read on audiobook on KZbin. ^___^
