I can see why Rita Hayworth became such a great star. She literally dominates the screen. And all she did was dance, flash her eyes and smile seductively.

Beautiful Rita Hayworth. What a pleasure to watch her dancing! Glenn Ford was a lucky man---he played five times opposite Rita. Yes, Rita had Spanish blood too. Passion, class, beauty and flamenco---who would ask for more?

The irony of her appearing in "The Many Loves Of Carmen" is that Carmen is her middle name. Her real name was Margarita Carmen Cansino. Her father was born in Spain. When she started appearing in movies, she tried shortening her name to Rita Cansino, but the big Hollywood executives thought the name was still too Latino for American audiences, who were used to actors and actresses with Anglo-Saxon names, so they decided to replace Cansino with her Irish mother's maiden name, Haworth. It was pronounced "HAY-worth," but the same Hollywood big shots were worried that audiences would think Rita's name was "HA-worth," so they added the letter "y" so everyone would know how it really sounded. In other words, Rita Hayworth was a Hispanic pretending to be an Anglo-Saxon pretending to be a Hispanic! Incidentally, the original spelling of the name Hayworth, without the "y," was still used by British actress Jill Haworth, who's best remembered as the first one to play Sally Bowles in the original 1966 Broadway musical version of "Cabaret," the same role that was played by Liza Minnelli in the 1972 film adaptation of the play. Ironically, more people remember Miss Minnelli's version of Sally (who's an American) than they do Miss Haworth's take on the character (who's English).

It was always a treat to see Rita dance, because when she danced she came alive on film. Dancing was her real passion (and her earliest training), more so than being sexy or dramatic- and it showed. She even commented how the films she enjoyed the most were the musicals she did with Astaire and Kelly. And in this brief flamenco, you can see the joy again- the Cansino roots. Marvelous.

She was a true dancer. In all Hollywood history this is one of the rarest moments we can see a true flamenco dance. Observe when she dances with her real master uncle she goes to the top of her dancing skills. The same occurs with Fred Astaire. She was not just as beautiful as Heaven, she was a true genius in arts.
@Sibila1983

She is really charming and a good dancer in general but this is not true flamenco dance, it is a shocking interpretation of what flamenco is with some little things being remotely accurate. I would not consider myself as an expert but I have been listening flamenco since childhood and dancing flamenco for several years now.

You are like the Latin Americans who are always talking rubbish about Spain and the Spaniards. ignorant. www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-41580-9 Published: 26 March 2019 Genetic structure in the paternal lineages of South East Spain revealed by the analysis of 17 Y-STRs " By AMOVA and STRUCTURE analysis, the populations of the 3 provinces could be treated genetically as a single population. The most frequent haplogroup was R1b1b2 (58.22%). By network analysis of all individuals, we observed a distribution according to haplogroup assignment. To improve the characterization of GMA population, it was compared with those of North Africa, the Iberian Peninsula, and southern Europe. In our analysis of allele frequencies and genetic distances, the GMA population lay within the Spanish population group. Further, in the STRUCTURE analysis, there was no African component in the GMA population, confirming that, based on our genetic markers, the GMA population does not reflect any male genetic influence of the North African people. The presence of African haplogroups in the GMA population is irrelevant when their frequency is compared with those in other European populations "

I'd like to start by talking about Rita. She does a great job on this film, she looks beautiful, but I particularly prefer the actress in the black and white films. It seems to me on the silver screen that she looks like a goddess of love. Watching her in the role of Carmen has a special flavor because both are of Spanish origin. Carmen's character was a pioneer (not official) in the struggle for the emancipation of women. She has strong personality and owns her nose. It is a pity that these qualities are seen as defects and that the girl is frequently beaten and victimized by verbal and physical violence. Overall, the story goes for fun, even though it's against the gypsies. They appear as villains, traitors and cowards.

For people claiming she was Spanish. WRONG. The Flamingo dance was created by Roma or Gypsys as a f..k you dance because they was bricking us in our homes to die. They only gave very few a chance to get away. If we spoke the tounges would be cut out. That's why the Flamingo dance came out. It was a very dirty dance for the soilders killing and chopping us up.

The co-star in this movie was Glen Ford, who later said that this was the one movie where he made a point of NOT being Glen Ford but actually sank himself into the role .... yet the movie was considered a dreadful failure.

+Bernard Sussman Actually this movie was one of 1948's biggest box office hits.... Maybe not a critical hit, but the public loved it....

Unsexy ? !! I guess all depends on what "sexy "mean to you.I would say that in films they were a pretty good match like Katharine Hepburn with Spence Tracy."Sexy" or not we felt the chemistry between them .
