We leave the dance classroom to get to the spiritual roots of Cuban folkloric dance that are evident in the everyday lives of many Cubans - in this second episode of the series "To the Heart of Dance in Cuba"!
As I was immersed in learning the songs and dances of the orichas in the Folkcuba program at Conjunto Folklórico (Chapter 1), I also wanted to make the connection to the underlying spiritual practices that these dances come from.
My friend and dance inspiration Mileydi Valdes Atalay invited me to her home to meet her family and talk about their practice of Santeria and how it relates to her experience as a dancer.
