Which one do you prefer? Write in comments!
Zakharova's music is different because it seems there are no other music versions on KZbin. Sorry for that!

I you only knew what a joy it is to be able to watch such wonderful dancers on KZbin, in the middle of the night, even. When I was younger, I was fortunate to see Baryshnikov and before that Nureyev. We don't get as many of the great European Ballets down here in Australia, although we have given the world some brilliant dancers of our own 😀❤

I, in my opinion, prefer Osipova most of the ballets, but in the Swan Lake, especially Black Swan, Zakharova took another place. She made it her own. Not only her technique but also her attitude and gestures are enough to say that ''I am a black swan.'' I cannot stay without saying , Nunez has so much control (especially turns) and acting talent. She is so calm and stable always. They are all amazing, at their own individual way.
@hejhej4441

I usually yawn while watching Zakharova as I personally think her dancing is reminiscent of a hypermobile' "perfectly technically programmed" robot. But her black swan is truly something else, extremely intriguing to watch her in this role.
@beatrixkiddo1279
@beatrixkiddo1279 3 жыл бұрын
@@hejhej4441 not agreed at all, I don't think she is robot because I think no ballerina should be called like that. I prefer to say her technicality is quite strict :) She is an amazing ballerina probably one of the best of our era. Her extentions and technic is unique... All ballerinas are different and beautiful. Btw you are right, she is at her top in this role.
@hejhej4441

@@beatrixkiddo1279 I know that she is famous for a reason and I know why many people don't agree with me. This was just my personal blunt opinion. Of course, dancers should strive to have as perfect technique they can but personally I care very little for "perfection" in that aspect as long as it looks good and fits the role. I like to think of ballet as an athletically demanding artform first and a sport second. I personally find it quite tiresome to see how this generation of dancers dancers are taught to strive after being able to get their foot to their ear (even if it isn't on time with the music) and to have their legs shaped like an "s" because they strive towards those hyperextensions and banana feet. I'd much rather see a dancers who sacrifice a little technique for artistry, acting and expression both through their face and body, that is what I think makes a prima ballerina stand out from the others. But I understand why technical perfectionism appealing to some, to each their own.
@beatrixkiddo1279
@beatrixkiddo1279 3 жыл бұрын
@@hejhej4441 I put my signature under every sentence you say. I also think like you. None of my favorite dancers throughout history have had huge extentions. Asslymuratova, Nureyev, Makarova, Plisetskaya ... (except Sylvie Guillem). For example: Assylmuratova's Nikiya's Death. None has ever been able to present it as well as Altnai. No extention as big as today's ballerinas, but the lines are very clear. Emotions are unique. Extention also comes from just there.. She is the only one. The ability to give the sense of art to the other party is only heartfelt, not the leg extention. Also, just because someone has a large extention does not mean they cannot give emotion. For example Sylvie Guillem. Art perception is based on where a person looks at it. Two issues are a bit tricky. You seem to be diverting the subject a little. :)
@hejhej4441
@hejhej4441 3 жыл бұрын
@@beatrixkiddo1279 I agree with you. I am also a fan of some ballerinas with high extensions that are very capable of translating their technique into artistry to fit their character, like Sylvie Guillem, so they can definitely coexist. I think that the reason as to why I don't enjoy Zakharova in most roles is because I personally don't feel her, even though I'm being blunt and expressing my personal thoughts. Where I come from we also tend to be very blunt with how we feel about something/someone even if it sounds rude (things like cursewords and insults are also taken way lore lightly than in other cultures, it's even fine for teachers to use them as long as their students have passed a certain age) not that it is an excuse. But just so that you understand that my sole intent isn't to undermine anyone as a dancer, but just to express myself in a way that people around me have expressed themselves since childhood) that pass through my head when watching her, I am not saying that she is an objectively bad dancer. We all have our subjective opinions and this is just mine. But overall I agree with you and I'm glad that you understand where I'm coming from. And yeah, I am diverting the subject haha. I guess this discussion wasn't what you signed up for when you wrote your original comment. But it was still interesting to hear what you had to say (or write).

First off, it's absurd to compare dancers who are performing different variations. My preference for Osipova is because she's dancing a specific character, Odile, not just doing pretty ballet moves. Odile is about seduction, making a fool of the prince and court, not just entertaining them, and I think Osipova puts that over the best. When Osipova imitates Odette, it's almost as if she's doing it with a mocking smirk on her face and I love that interpretation. Whatever Odile is (Plisetskaya referred to her as an 'imp') she's evil and manipulative not just someone in a black tutu.
@hejhej4441
@hejhej4441 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. In that aspect Osipova is amazing, she's my all time favourite dancer. But in this role I prefer Evgenia Obraztsova since she has the most unique and multi-dimensional (if that's the right word) interpretation of Odile. I don't enjoy her Odette a lot, but I like how she plays Odile as this character who isn't just pure evil, but evil at the commands of her father whom she is still dependent on. Her acting is astounding in that role and the way she uses the music for dramatic expression also just that.

I like that version but it's completely different from what Osipova is dancing. Who says Odile is Rothbart's daughter? She's this supernatural creature he's brought to the palace and, yes, I think she's totally evil, there to humiliate the prince and his parents. There is no nice aspect of her. I do like how Obraztsova is almost at times like a dancing doll, but I kind of think she loses it in the middle of the PDD and, for me, Osipova gives a much more focused performance. @@kabardinka1 I’m aware that she’s dancing a very different version. I was just speaking of the role of Odile in general and not this variation specifically. I’m not saying that Odile is Rothbarts daughter, I’m just saying that it is the vibe that Evgenia is giving me (a daddy’s girl who’s been told to be evil and seductive help her summoner and his evil plans) and commend her on such a unique interpretation. Wheter you want Odile to be multi-dimensional or pure evil is simply a matter of preferences. I admired all three very much; I particularly liked Zakharova's flashing eyes at the beginning - full of threat! And she is so beautiful, physically. I have seen her in this role in 'real life' more than once. But the one that stole my heart is Osipova. She is such a joy in any role. I've never seen her in Swan Lake in spite of being 'local' to the Royal Ballet. I must make a point of doing so.

I used to dance and here’s all that’s going on, the technique is immensely difficult, it takes years and countless days and hours to get to that level of difficulty, (if you can even make it that far), then you got to add in the mental stress. Physical aches and pains, injuries etc. emotions, then you have to act and be precisely with the music. Musicality and also acting. Dieting exercising and cross training, While a thousand people watch you and bright lights in your face. Hours upon hours of practice and rehearsals. The pressure from your teachers and peers. While wearing an incredibly elaborate costume. And THEN after all that and so much more. You smile and look pretty and it looks effortless. Ohhh the beautiful ways is ballet. Taking the most incredibly difficult thing your mind and body can do and making it look like a slice of cake. Bravo!
