Here is some information that might help you to understand the choreography for "Monster" better. All the pieces of the choreography were designed to help tell a story. So if you know what you are looking for you will see that each move is done for a very specific reason. If you follow EXO, then you know that the whole concept of the group is that they are supposed to be aliens who are from Planet Exo, and they were sent to Earth on a mission. Each of the members of EXO have a superpower that is unique to them and almost everything that EXO is involved in is part of their storyline and concept. In "Monster" the choreography has been designed to tell their story and it uses elements of their dance to represent several of the members using their powers. D.O. has the power of earth (dirt) which gives him super strength, so during his part in the song and choreography you will see that he waves his hands and the other members are pushed away from him or pulled toward him. Xiumin has the power to control snow/ice/frost, so during one part of the choreography you will see that each of the members pause as if frozen as he moves in front of them. Sehun has the power to control wind, so during his parts, you will see the other members shuffle around him as if they are creating a windstorm. And the part where they are sitting on the ground is supposed to represent a sundial, EXO gets their power from the eclipse and their powers are affected by planetary and solar phenomenon, so the sundial is meant to represent the passing of time and their connection to the sun. Also if you notice, at the end when they say "creepin', creepin', creeping," the dance move they are doing is called The Creep, from the iconic 1990s American girl group TLC, which was created for TLC's song "Creep."

The one in the purple jacket is Lay, the only remaining Chinese member. He's doing solo promotions in China. He can't perform with EXO nowadays because of the not so good political relationship between China and Korea. But he is still an EXO member. He is also one of the main dancers.

EXO’s dances always being criticized by haters, because it seems like their dances are not hard as the other dances. But, I think that haters only get to shame others, without even knowing how the dances made. Exo’s dances have hard work, because the dances have a slow and hard moves, which is hard to do to control their movements. Dances aren’t always HARD MOVEMENTS, flipping back, jumping and whatever. If you’re truly a dancer, you must’ve known how hard to control your body when you wanna going hard, but the dances have to be slow and smooth. And lastly, EXO’s dances always fit the song first, and their movements are catchy(!) and that feeling about the songs connected to their dances and their concepts are have a super power, every members have their super power so when every members have their own line to sing sometimes their movements are connecting to their superpower or symbolize their superpower, that’s why only EXO’s can make their movements like easy to dance but in reality it’s hard to do. ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻

That purple jacket is Lay, real name Zhang Yixing. He is the only chinese member in exo. He is one of exo main dancer along side with Kai. He really serious about body balance in dancing. Used to practice with weight tide on his waist. Lay and Kai are both equally really really good with their own style. Kai named as the best kpop dancers voted by many professionals dancers from Korea. Lay right now is active with his solo activities and even became a dancer mentor in China. All bcs he can’t promote with exo as the political conflict between Korea and China is still effecting them. Just letting you know, exo dance line are really at the top in the industry. The best dancer title in the exol fandom usually shifts in between Kai and Lay (purple jacket guy). We say Lay is the best dancer if its down to skill, body control and he is really smart with his body because he knows when to use his strength and not, to save energy. Whereas kai has the skill but he is much more expressive (because of his ballet background), he is entertaining to watch and thats why hes the center of the group. These two have trained together day in and day out, since both of them are the main dancers, to the point that Kai said that every time he dances he's reminded of Lay. In this choreography Lay has very little focus because this was one of his lasts comebacks before the hiatus, in order not to midify the choreography too much he doesnt get too many center parts. (hes in china promoting solo but he's still part of exo). Both of them are my biases and imo they are the two top main dancers of this generation skill-wise. You could react to his solos and more exo pls ❤❤❤

The one in purple jacket is Lay. Him & Kai are the exo's main dancer, but they have a different style of dance. Both of them are powerful, sharp & smooth at the same time, but when they are performing hip hop type of dance like this, i think Lay is more fluid, while Kai is more agressive. Then, it would be the opposite when they are performing a contemporary which is Kai's basic dance. Lay is great when it comes to precision while Kai is amazing when it comes to emotion/expression. The more you watch them, the more you can clearly see the difference. If you don't mind, could you please react to their focuses fancams? Since you are a dancer who has a knowledge about dancing, you must be better at assessing the difference rather than me. I'm not trying to prove who's better than who, i just wanna convince that both of them are superb in their own respective ways. I never said that kai has a less technique than lay, off course he's not. Both of them obviously have a great technique, that's why they are the main dancers. And his emotions are something that I've never found from any other dancers in my entire whole life. It's just out of this world. Hands down!

Thanks for the breakdown! I always think their dancing is on point, but I don't know anything about what makes something difficult to do or not, and it's quite interesting. You really seem to know your stuff, and I am glad that you like our boys!! React to any of their MV's (well, not Power, or Lucky One....no choreo in those). Most of their best dancing is in their live stages, or dance practices. They don't have dance practices for every song, unfortunately. Oh La La is one of my favorite dance practices and choreo's in general. Can't wait to see more!!
