Danelectro have revamped their '59 12 String with two new colors, binding, a splittable lipstick bridge pickup, F-hole and the sweet, sweet jangle that Danos are renowned for. The Fifty Niner 12 String plays like butter and sounds even better. I'm loving it.

I like that it sounds a bit thicker & fuller than the other Dano 12s. A bit more like a Rickenbacker.

Steve Ridinger must think highly of you . I cannot find another demo of this or find the guitar anywhere, including on Danelectro's website. I did hear you mention that this is a prototype and apparently, at this time, it is one of one. Good on you Brett. 👍

I still use their FAB Overdrive pedal for some reason. Very high quality product, it will be almost like a clean booster for my old-new JoYo US Dream Distortion. ;) So it goes!

Sounds as pretty as one would hope for. One of the biggest "guitar disappointments" I've ever experienced was a buddy's mid-60s Rickenbacker 12-string. The moment I laid eyes on it, I *had* to try it. But the neck was barely wide enough for 6 strings, let alone 12. I instantly understood why Roger McGuinn's solos seemed so inept. Apparently, the neck was widened a bit during the following production year. From your picking, here, it seems the neck is of a suitable width.

Great playing Brett and great sounds from that guitar! I don't usually add to comments from other fellows, but in this instance I will. Over the years I've owned many 12-string guitars, starting with a 1960s Ricky 360-12 like McGuinn's, back in the day. I loved the sound but didn't use it much, and gave it to my younger brother, who traded it for a Fender acoustic 12-string... Anyway, I've owned just about every 12-string electric ever made, and was quite impressed with the Dano 12-string (the prior model), and also very surprised at how nice the rare Italia electric 12 string is. It has a great wide and flat neck, it's easy to play and sounded quite nice (has humbucker pickups). But ..... there's nothing that sounds like a real Ricky 12-string with the toaster pickups, and even though the necks are "challenging." it comes out on top soundwise for me. I currently own a 2012 360-12C63 George Harrison reissue in Jetglow. It sounds like what a 12-string should sound like. Add a little compression and reverb, and you are in absolute jangle heaven. I added a 12-saddle bridge, and 12-hole trapeze tailpiece for tuning and stability, and it's strung with Pyramid flatwounds which last forever. Aside from the narrow neck, which is what it is, it has that SOUND, like no other guitar made. Once you get hooked by a Ricky, you don't go back.

Great playing, and that Dano sounds great! I’ve got a standard DC-12, as well as a Fender reissue Electric XII. I haven’t been this 12-string-crazy since 1967, when I had a Vox Phantom XII. I should really get rid of the Dano since I got the Fender, but it’s so good I can’t bear to!

I don't know when it will be available, I'm sorry. I'd have to defer to Danelectro for that answer. Can't help with 12/6 question either, although I'd be keen to snaffle one if they're ever built. The Axe patch was written by me. I'll upload it once we're out of beta (which it was written in).

In the closeup of the bridge, looks like the upper string of the high-E pair has (already) slipped off its appointed notch on the saddle, and has fallen down into the "crack" closer to the other string. Maybe one could cut the notch a bit deeper to prevent this. Interesting bridge design, but this shows that it will likely have problems that users will have to fiddle around with. Or maybe they'll address this before it goes into production, we can hope.

You are right. I had to inspect with better spectacles! I think I must have knocked it when unboxing. It's pretty stable once re-saddled though. No dramas.

It does sound good but I dread to think how much it will cost. Danelectro seem to have jacked up their prices more than most. It wasn't so long ago that I bought 6 of the single cut models---the U2?--for just over £100 each!

Being interested in this guitar, tried to find it at the Danelectro website, this version is not there.. Is this a special order version perhaps? 12 strings are great UNTIL you have to re-string it. I presume it's a loaner that you handed back once the strings went off? 😉😆 BTW, the guitar has that full sound jangle we all want in an electric 12....Great playing too Brett...
