The Red Hot Longhorn brandishes a pair of high-impedance, high-output Danelectro pickups. It’s designed to deliver a huge array of bass tones.
First introduced in 1958, Danelectro’s classic Longhorn body shape and short-scale neck is revered for its distinctive sound, heard on countless recordings. The newest Longhorn carries on this proud tradition but adds some modern touches.
Red Hot Longhorn features include:

*F hole and top body binding.

I've always loved the Longhorn/short scale. Saw Matt Freeman playing one of these back in the late '90's - that's all the validation I need.

It looks great and sounds amazing, but I have to admit that I have very mixed feelings about Dano bringing back the rosewood saddle. It's a nice nod to their history and it certainly adds to that iconic tone, but there are advantages to modern, individual, adjustable saddles.

It's a hell to adjust, but when it's adjusted it sounds better (IMHO) than the Longhorn with adjustable saddles. It was for sale with those saddles for a while.

Just cut the saddle in a few pieces if it bugs you, and it'll be held down under string tension even without a screw. I did that on my Dano-built Silvertone 1448 (it doesn't have an original saddle.)

The top is Masonite, not 'hardwood'. The fretboard is pau ferro, not rosewood.

I have a black one and I hate the way it looks. I almost didn't buy it because I hated the way it looks. I had one from the early 2000's and I sold it because I hated the way it looked... But I ended up buying another one a couple of years ago because I LOVED the way is sounded and played! Very weird instrument - but strangely addictive. The bass player from Maneskin (Victoria De Angelis) plays these... but they look good on her 🙂
