Gurre castle was built in the middle ages in northern Zealand, Denmark. There are no records of who really built it, but it has been in the possesion of many different people over the times. From castle, stronghold to local store of money at the time. The tower in the middle had no ground floor access thus keeping the inhabitants safe during attacks. At the time of Erik of Pommern the castle was used as a place of keeping the local mint. It was called "Castrum Gorge". In 1525 the castle was added to Kronborg castle and Gurre castle was given to a bishop. Around Frederik the 2nd the castle was torn down and the stones used for other buildings around the area.
