I would say that in the kind of place and time they were from, their only other option would have been marriage. In India, normally each movie begins with the National Anthem and everyone stands for it before they sit down for the movie. This movie did not play it and everyone thought what happened. They wanted the National Anthem at the end of the movie to come with a surprise and a bang, and it changed everything for this movie at the Box Office. Brilliant move by the makers to not play the National Anthem at the beginning... Still the highest grossing Indian movie at the Worldwide box office...

In the begging it seems Mr. Phogat is really pushing his dreams upon to his girls but once you put yourself in the situation. You can fathom the larger picture what Mr. Phogat was envisioning. The best life which he could provide to his daughter in that patriarchal society and what not. The discipline , the punishment is all what sculpted them into what they become later in life. Their success also catapulted others to give a chance to their daughters to pursue their dreams. It became a guiding lamp for the younger ones in that area particularly.

I am sure that it is difficult to understand the beginning of this film from an American perspective but back in the days and even today there are places that don’t consider women to be able be good at something and they are primarily considered and trained to be a homemaker doing household chores, getting married. This is one of the dark realities of Indian society and something that we are not proud of, especially learning about struggles that my mother, her sisters and my grandmothers went through but there is definitely a perspective shift. To have a father that cares about the career of their daughters is a blessing in disguise and any good career option requires sacrifices and hardships which small kids seldom see. The struggle their father put them through in the starting was against the societal norms and against their own beliefs because those beliefs had to be squeezed out from them for their own good

For words like RAAT, BAAT, SAATH etc. the "AA" sound is be a bit longer. Now, use that longer elongation with other words that ends with "AA" sound. For e.g. MERA, KAHA, JAISA etc. Cheers! 🍻
