Well the movie feels like a long list of Checklist, where all sports film's cliches are checked out at every 10 minutes. Pandering to nationalism being the bonus check-box. But what left me astonished was the lack of risk taken in both the writing and the presentation of the film. If you have seen the trailer of the film, you've seen the film. Uninspiring direction, uninspiring acting, uninspiring score (not the soundtrack). Safe cinematography, ultrasafe editing. But it is going to make over 400 Crores, so who cares.

So true, specially with a surge in Sports biopics in Bollywood recently, its even more evident how repetitive this film is. Aamir's name brings a sense of autheticity to any project (whether it actually is or not is not question), so most will be going to watch the same film only in expectation of the 'different take' tag that comes with his name. The cliched female empowerment dialogues in the trailer are proof enough that the film isn't trying to do anything beyond the same old commercial masala and pandering to coventional nationalistic themes.

Dangal is a really good movie ! As far as the comparison of Aarfa to Geetha goes, every story has a different purpose and perspective.. If Aarfa did everything that Geetha did, why buy a ticket to watch a repeat telecast of the journey ? I loved Aarfa, just for the fact that she 'chose' how her life should be and I appreciate Geetha for 'living' her dad's dream.. :)

Beautiful film but as it was so good the flaws stuck out like a sore thumb. The characterization of the coach was so one note and insipid. Some decisions at the ending were baffling and belonged to an entirely different film. And I wanted deeper questions being raised on the methods chosen by Mahavir - something the vastly underappreciated Buddhia Singh managed to do. Still, I really liked the film and applaud it for encouraging female empowerment. I exactly felt the same thing you felt after watching Sultan - I wanted Anushka to chase her dreams and not succumb to be a wife. This film gave me that story.A MUCH better film than Sultan in any case.
