I know a lot of people are saying that Sidharth was meh in the movie, and I feel like I'm the only one who thinks he did a phenomenal job at portraying the unfairly treated, vulnerable little brother who's had all these emotions pent up inside him for so long. Of course, Fawad was on an entirely different level, but Sidharth held his own. But that's just my two cents. :)

This is the first time I'm watching your review. Absolutely loved it. I've seen the movie and agree with every bit of what you said about it. Siddhart Malhotra was the weakest link of the movie. The scene where he confronts his mother about the whole novel issues is IMO the least convincing scene of the movie.

Recently I showed this gem of a film to a friend and it helped me look at this film in new light. What changed this time: I remembered Siddharth as the weakest actor in the film. He still is but I admired his performance a lot more. He plays Arjun with just the right amount of confusion and ineptitude this character needs. I felt like the film pandered to the commercial taste by spending way too much time on the love triangle. However, in the end, the love triangle was just one of the many conflicts in the film and probably the least important one. Dadu was cute and he does contribute to the story but mostly is there for comic relief. Rahul is the perfect child for sure but he is also an extremely condescending and unlikeable brother. He loves Arjun but does not respect him. It makes Rahul real but a lot less likable. What did not change: Ratna Pathak. The most important conflicts in the film essentially revolve around her. She is the victim of infidelity but she is not a pushover. She is also an imperfect mother. She clearly favors one son over the other but is not very accepting of her favorite child either. And yet, Ratna Pathak makes you empathize with Sunita. Rajat Kapoor is so damn good and is more likable even with his flaws. I loved how the film draws parallels between the parents and the children. He is always taunting Arjun about his failures but Arjun is just a reflection of Harsh. Harsh is essentially responsible for ruining his own financial condition and his marriage. It is a joy to watch these two actors play off each other. Their scenes together, both loving and squabbling are some of the best in the film. Their bodies seem to act even when their backs are facing the camera.

Agree wholly on the bit about sidharth.In the last scene in which he explodes at his mom scene one could feel he was ACTING ,it didn't feel as organic as that of the rest of the splendid cast.

n my review of the trailer when it was launched: trailers are a window to see how the movie would b? so talk about it. this one has what hollywood and european cinema had now kind of stopped churning, but still do with some changes here and there. small town, dysfunctional family, some members return for an occasion. differences, accusations, skeletons out, screaming and finally understanding in the last 30 to 45 min and accepting each other and this one has one of the sons being gay (after all it's by kjo). other than that casual and scruffy looks sans make up, brothers drunk and bonding, garden parties, hand held cam shoot, the old kapoor as the wise man getting everyone together, alia as usual with her sheepish smile trying to be cute in shortest of short dresses, and seems the make up artist went overboard with rishi's make up! and oh yes! this one is only in hindi, and like finding fanny not in english, too. :) so, what is new?? n how wannabe!!

lol!! c'mon m being totally honest! don't u get a drift of the story watching a trailer? n promos after promos just give away the whole film killing the interest! dysfunctional tau monsoon wedding family bhi thee aur bohat see! dysfunctional mein sleep walking ho, kleptomaniac ho (i think it has been dealt with) and some idiosyncrasies but nahi! wohi koi gay, tau koi incest aur bachpan mein molestated, tau illegitimate bacha. cheekh pukar! kitna acha hota with a twist k in 'k and sons' if not the father then the mother would have realized sharing her dark, dark secret with us through flashbacks (with a female in college days) when she comes to know her perfect son is gay coz she is a lesbo and he got it from her! left with meri waja say aisa hai, mein bhi tau 'perfect' nahi thee thoughts! :) seriously start reviewing trailers coz most of them are ugghhh! n just u wait, m going to pounce on ki and ka! ha ha ha!
