What an excellent little clip of how to anchor off of a tidal shore! I frequently go camping on a salt water island, and having your boat end up high and dry is a reality. I am absolutely going to use this technique. I can't believe I've never been shown it before. Thanks again!

That's a great tour Stu. What a lot of overseas folk won't realise, is how brave he was walking alone in the bush in drop bear territory. If you do visit Oz and go bush walking, please always take a whistle and something to flash sunlight off, like a mirror or aluminium / stainless steel polished metal. That sound St pointed out wasn't actually a drop bear noise, it was a bird call (he was joking - that's his dry humour), but if you hear something that sounds like wind blowing through the trees, or a sort of bark or coughing sound, watch out for drop bears. A lot of tourists are scared of our highly venomous snakes and spiders, but it's the drop bears you have to worry about.

Hawkesbury River and your island are quite reminiscent of the river that I spent cruising on a ChrisCraft for many summers. The major difference is the salinity -- the river I cruised on emptied into the Mississippi about 12 miles downstream . More iron than salt in the river. Closest we have to an ocean is Lake Superior -- about 100 miles to the north . Enjoy your channel very much .

In Canada, alcohol on a boat faces the exact same restrictions as alcohol in a car. In the 80's you could get away with just having your drink in a plastic cup, but now it's pretty tight. Best kept tucked away and consumed below decks, or at destination. Surprising how many deaths (allegedly) are attributed to drinkin' and boatin' here. And it doesn't slack off in the winter time, the snowmobile crowd loves to roar around on the ice while right tanked. You can just imagine the hijinks.

@@stanpatterson5033 in Western Australia there are no drink boating laws as yet! (unless commercial or charter) In New South Whales (where Stu lives) they can apply the charges to your drivers license, but he is not in the City so unlikely to be pulled up, and probably stays under the 0.05 limit. In Western Australia it is illegal for the police to breath test you on the boat, they can do you for "being drunk in charge of machinery" but it is very hard to prove! They can however get you at the boat ramp when retrieving..... They talk about changing the laws but the fact is there so few drink/boating incidents that the cost of changing the law has not proven cost effective.

i Stu, was in the RFS 20 years ago and was part of the fireboat crew. The boat was located at Patonga, and crossing the bar was a shit sometimes (now I think the boat is at Point Clare) and we would travel Brisbane Waters, and also the Hawkesbury - always refuel at Brooklyn. At the Hawkesbury, when a house went past, we were always on the lookout for "white pointers" - topless women. The Hawkesbury is a great place for fishing....Sean
