In this video I show the part you need to swap over to change a Yamaha 703 forward control from having a push throttle to a pull throttle.

Just wanted to say a quick, thanks a lot. I have just completed this fix on a Suzuki controller exactly as you suggested by grinding the pins down and then drilling and tapping the holes and using a screw to hold the parts in place with a washer. Changed a push throttle to a pull. Job done....cheers

So i tried unsuccessfully off and on for a year to do this without success. Until you posted this video that is. I was able to do in 10 minutes what i hadn't been able to do in months, and successfully reverse the gears in my 703 after picking up a spare part from a shade tree mechanic. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi. Also thank you so much. I had to convert mine the other way to a push. I did not have a spare part so I had to “un peen” the pivot pins. Why they couldn’t have used washers and C clips. One thing you did not mention is that you need to rotate the disk 180 degrees on the cold start lever. If you look at the disk you will notice that there is a second notch on the top of the disk. At least in this case you just have to undo 2 screws instead of punching out peens. I discovered this when the cable went the wrong way when I pulled up the cold start lever. Not sure if I will even need this on a fuel injected anyway.

You need to also reverse the drum that the warm up lever attaches to. If you use an OLD pull throttle box for the part, brass piece where the tension is, and you put it in a new box you also have to transfer the bushings and wave washer from where the pin locates in the box.

The cable end on that motor is different. It hooks on the side of the threads not at the tip. You'll notice the hole is smaller on the correct end too (that's why it won't idle down all the way)

Good day from Canada. Thanks, I didn't know. You have good videos, learning a lot. (Have subscribed) Backpacked the earth for fourteen years non-stop now need to explore the water. In process of wrapping my brain around all involved to live aboard and see the world by boat. Your information has helped. Nice to know there's a quality mechanic when I get to your region of the world. Haven't decided on sail or power boat yet the MacGregor 26m has best of both worlds. More research needed. Curious what you think about large hp desiel outboards for extended running times (ocean crossings) over gas fueled outboads. Like the Green Machine. Thanks again.

Hey Andrew. There certainly are plenty of choices when it comes to cruising. I personally like sailing catamarans as they give you plenty of space and good maneuverability under motor. Check out the KZbin channel "Catamaran Impi" They are a nice couple that have been travelling the world for a long time now on their boat. With regards to cruising motors your only real choice is diesel if you want to travel any distance, you just can't carry enough petrol to get very far in comparison.

Boat ran, had rats eat the wire harnesses. I had the remote apart to replace a wire harness, never messed with the mechanical linkages, put it back together, and now I have lost throttle response using the control arm. Shifts fine, neutral accelerator lever works, and activates throttle linkage, but no positive throttle while shifting past 30 deg. in forward, or reverse! I can't find any missing parts, or anything missing compared to a Seloc manual pic. i just had it open - gently! -for a couple hrs! What happened?

Dangar I'm hoping you can help me out. I have twin yamaha's and my forward controls are not opening the throttles at the same rate. They start out fine at first but then the more you give it gas the larger the discrepancy between throttles. When I run at high speed the right handle has to be more forward that the left for both engines to have the same rpm. I thought at first that the throttle/cable parts/levers on the outboards could be loose or worn out. But they are fine. Both have been synchronized at neutral and at idle. Both idle at 700 rpm.
@DangarMarine
@DangarMarine 5 жыл бұрын
The idle stopper screws will set how far the throttle plates close and therefore your idle speed. I would adjust the cables to give you equal revs at full throttle and let the idle screws handle the balance at the low end.
@jejoko
@jejoko 5 жыл бұрын
@@DangarMarine Thank you for your reply! I have done that. They both idle at 700 rpm and with the binical handles all the way forward at full throttle they both run at equal rpm. (Sorry for the long post but this is quite difficult to convey in a text message, I'll do my best) The problem is at mid range. The binicals are not consistently opening the throttles at the same rate as I push the handles forward. They start out consistent up until they reach 2.5k rpm. After that point the discrepancy starts and the rpms get further and further apart as I move up the handles. To the point were one engine will be at 3.5k and the other at 5k with the handles at par with each other. I have visually inspected and measured the throttle openings between the idle screw and the stopper on both engines with the handles at par to each other at different positions in the mid range and I have confirmed that one is progressively opening more than the other. Again, at idle up to 2.5k they are the same, and at full throttle they are the same. But in between that range they open at different rates. If I want to run at 4k or 4.5k the levers have to be significantly at an offset, with one almost a full handle grip length further out than the other. What could be causing this? Wear in the binical? Wear in the throttle levers? (But I have checked them and don't show wear and all parts are identical) I am very puzzled by this. Please let me know what you think. Thank you!!

I GOT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER BUT ITS STILL NOT 100%. FLIPPING THE ARM SHOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE BUT ITS DEFINITELY NOT THE ANSWER. EVERYTHING WORKS BUT ITS STIFF AND GETS STUCK SOMETIMES. THE NEUTRAL THROTTLE ARM DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. IT LOCKS WHEN I SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND TRY TO REV THE ENGINE WITH THE SIDE THROTTLE. I BOUGHT THE REAL BRACKETT. WE'LL SEE IF THATS THE ISSUES OR ITS AN ADJUSTMENT PROBLEM
