The Max Working Pressure (or Proof Pressure) of a pressure gauge is often misunderstood as the burst (or rupture) pressure. In this video we show the differences between the two and demonstrate how the bourdon tube reacts to pressures well above its measuring range.

Thank you for your video, so for pressures between proof and burst pressure, the pressure gauge does not show accurately, and now the 300 psi is named which pressure? if the burst pressure is 7800 psig, so if we stop before 7800, and vent it, see the operation of pressure gauge, it is damaged and not working properly, yes? I wonder why in another site it was written Burst pressure is the maximum pressure that may be applied to the positive pressure port without physically damaging the internal sensing component!so we can say for every pressure above proof pressure, it will be damaged and not operating accurately?

Thanks for your questions. There is often some confusion in the definition of these terms, which is why we made the video. As we define them: Burst Pressure = the applied pressure to the gauge element at which the element may no longer contain the fluid being measured Maximum Working Pressure or Proof Pressure = the maximum pressure that can be applied to the measuring element without permanently damaging the measuring element of the gauge

great video thanks, for how long the gauge can withstand for 1.3 of full scale without reducing the accuracy?

Great question Amir. There isn't a specific amount of time it can be operated at 130%, however it should be as rare and short duration as possible. The constant operating pressure should between 20-60% of scale for the best long-term performance of the gauge. When in doubt, use or specify a gauge range higher than you think you need.
