I'll add some random comments because...why not? 1) You can find at least one internet article that states Drew died because his chute did not open, but both the investigator and the police report (which you can find on the internet) say his emergency chute did open. Drew's Wikipedia article says he died from freefall. 2) Commenter @DurAble says the second coin at 8:20 is a Norwegian 10 kroner. The third coin looks Austrian. The gold coins are in fact krugerrands....or else accurate props of such. 3) Several commenters have pointed out inconsistencies with the plane. My opinion is...yep. The real plane that Drew jumped out of was a Cessna 404 Titan which is a low wing, twin engine aircraft with retractable landing gear. The cutscene at 0:08 shows a high-wing with fixed landing gear. The rest of the cutscenes that are clear enough to show the plane type are of a Beech B90 King Air...similar to a Titan but not the same. The King Air can be verified using the registration number shown at 48:51. 4) The wreck they show at 16:10 is probably a salvage wreck that the show bought (or borrowed) from a salvager and used as a prop. It looks nothing like the wreck shown at 17:26 which looks like it might be actual footage of the crash site. 5) The more I look at the wreck scene, the more gaffs I see. For one, the tail number N8664Z belongs to a Cessna P206C which is a high-wing single engine aircraft (you can see the real plane at 0:40). The wreck is of a low-wing twin engine...you can see where the wing placement was at 18:22. The comment made by @mokiloke (dashboard looks like a cardboard cutout) is not far wrong. When an aircraft is salvaged, one of the first things that's done is to remove all the high value parts for resale, such as the instruments (the meters and gauges). Since replacing them for this scene would have cost literally tens of thousands of dollars, the show simply drew some dials on paper and put them where the instrument holes are. Its kinda comical. Also, when an aircraft crashes at speed in a forest, you can pretty much bet that you won't find one of the wings casually draped on top of the fuselage like you see at 18:13. 6) The show gives the name of the slain judge as John Drews (Druse? Druz?). It was actually John H. Wood, and there is a Wikipedia article about him. Interesting side note: His killer, Charles Harrelson, was the father of actor Woody Harrelson who was famous as bartender Woody in the American sitcom Cheers. 7) Another interesting side note: A few months after Drew made his jump, a black bear was found dead in Georgia. Cause of death? Cocaine ingestion. Cocaine Bear, Lexington, Kentucky (roadsideamerica.com) 8) At 1:06:22, the narrator says "...even semi-automatic M-2 carbines" as if that's a big deal. For one thing, an M-2 is not a semi-automatic...its a select-fire (that means it can be set to fire like a machine gun). and, I would also say that finding soviet machine guns and an anti-tank weapon would be much more deserving of the "even" emphasizer. 8) Yet another interesting sidenote: The plane that this show seems to have rented for many of the aircraft scenes, is a King Air owned by...somebody. Depending on when this show was made, it was either Win Win Aviation (who seems to no longer be in business) or NBBS, LLC who I can find no info on. I guess this should not be surprising since, back in the 1970s, that registration number was assigned to a Beech-18 owned by Air America (a private airline connected to the CIA). 8-)

@@KevinGardnerSr Just normal internet searching. My comment was made 2 years ago, so naturally I can't say if the internet webpages that I visited are still there, but... 1) You can find articles on Drew by simply doing a search on his name. 2) You can find what Krugerrands look like by searching them and looking at the pictures. 8-) 3) You can find info on planes by, again, reading articles on Drew (at least one of which mentions the plane he was using), and looking up tail numbers on at the FAA website, and by simply looking at the KZbin video. 4) Several of my comments are not facts. They are opinions, and I believe I made that clear in the wording I used. 5) I've never worked for the Feds (unless you count military service), but I did work at a flight school for a few years. 6) I did not comment on the stuff at 1:15:33. My comments are mostly about the quality of this video, i.e. props and cutscenes that were put in this video that are not accurate. Sorta like when you watch some of the older WW2 movies where the movie tries to show German tanks but in fact those tanks are simply American tanks with German markings...presumably because the movie production company could not afford to hire actual WW2 German tanks.

What the skydiver had in his hand is the ripcord of the reserve, and you say the emergency chute opened on its own. At low altitudes you go directly for the reserve which is (or used to be in 1985) round (Paracomander). A round chute also makes more sense at night since you can’t see it’s better to fall straight down as opposed to forward (advancing) which is what the main chute does.

The main had been opened and released. The riser attachment rings were empty and the cutaway cables were hanging free. The story I heard was that he had calculated how much he could carry based on the size of his main (but not his reserve). Supposedly he had a malfunctioned main, and cut away to his reserve, which was inadequate for his total weight (himself, his gear and his loot). Had his main not malfunctioned, he would likely have made it 2 weeks later a Cessna 208 Caravan crashed on takeoff, killing Dave "Cowboy" Williams, the pilot/owner and known associate of Thornton. 15 jumpers also lost their lives in the crash. The cause was "fuel contamination", but most people in the community think it was sabotage. I met Thornton once at a small Kentucky DZ when I was a fledgling skydiver. Scary guy. Not much later I moved to Houston and heard from back home that he was dead. Guy had a bad reputation that preceded him.

I love this channel. Why do us ladies love true crime videos!! I know I love them....
@justme23868 ай бұрын
You ladies love bad boys/men lol😂 a lot of women who are totally legitimate fall for the ‘lifestyle’’ and charisma of a lot of the men.. (nothing nasty meant by that)

Did they ever find out what happened to the missing girl? or did I miss it. Quite a convoluted mess to follow. A big clue they missed was the handle of the main parachute in the hand of the body in the driveway. Those handles just do not break off.

I was wondering the same thing - what happened to the woman in the 1977 investigation?
@montinaladine32642 жыл бұрын
Yes I did not hear what happened either. That reconstruction we just watched was a large budget production, so I would have expected to hear all the loose ends tied up. As for the handle, I thought they were attached to something that does come completely away from the whole assembly. So the handle being by itself... not sure, maybe they didn't get the facts right or it was a different type of emergency chute.

I'm still trying to find out the end result of the death's of the Judge and D.A. that were killed. I looked them up but cannot find anything on them.

The girl was the sister of a prominent professional baseball player. She didn't deserve what happened to her. I dont think they ever found her. Sad for the family.

This was used as inspiration for a subplot on one of the seasons of Justified. The instant it kicked off with dead parachutist in the drive way I knew the guys who made that show watched FBI Files.

That selfish SOB also killed a bear! Apparently 3 months after the plane thing a Black Bear found some of the scattered coke stash, ate it and OD’d. Not makin’ this up.

Very true. I read that somewhere few years ago. It was from a fairly trustworthy news pretty sure it was from that local area news. Hidden Blessing I believe. That could turn out bad a Bear high on Coke hit the local town looking to party.

Matt Kustom Kostumes Bullshit man the bear was a drug dealer and mad as a snake when he was coked up

I read that somewhere, too but then I wondered why an autopsy would've been done on a random dead bear in the woods.. I mean, I suppose it could be true, but I'm leaning towards it being bs
@mattkaustickomments4 жыл бұрын
Monica Lewis, not only is the story true, the bear was taxidermied and is now on display in an oddities museum called Kentucky For Kentucky Fun, where he’s known as Cocaine Bear! It gets crazier- at one time the stuffed bear was owned by Waylon Jennings! Btw, the science nerd in me reminds everyone that animals have ‘necropsies’, only people can have autopsies. Also, Cocaine Bear wasn’t a random bear alone in the woods- he was found next to a ripped-open bag that matched other coke bags from the plane.

Constant repetition of the same material, so you have the before adverts material, adverts are edited out and the same information is rehashed just in case you have short term memory loss during the advert break while making a cup of tea!

There was a video, I'm not sure whether it's on this channel, where a guy tries to enroll in the military, fails, then becomes a thief. He was once able to make a hide out inside a supermarket. After he was arrested and jailed, he escaped on the underbelly of a supply van. Anyone who has leads to the video?
