That donkey clearly had a good first experience with you as his farrier. Donkeys are really smart, so it's critical that the first experience at the farrier's is a good one. Nice, professional job.

I like the way you handle him. I have seen several videos from China of them trimming donkeys with extremely bad feet. The treatment those donkeys receive is considerably rougher than this fellow. Also, your trimming technique is better.

The first one I saw from that Chinese channel they laughed at the donkey because he was walking with a duck waddle, he was probably in a lot of pain I didn't find it funny :(

I know, l too saw a couple of those videos from China and this was enough for me 😳 .. l felt soo bad for those donkeys. You could tell they were terrified with the farrier he was so so rough with them.. 😦

I saw those videos too with "the m@$t3r" for lack of better hiding the phrase... As disgusted as I was/am, with the whole process there's and whatnot, on the other hand, the culture is so different. We put our fur kids first (well, any GOOD critter mum and dad in the 'western' (including Australia where I am, NZ, and many other places) world, whereas in that other country mentioned, - you've seen what the diet consists of in travel shows or people's holidays, street vendors and what they keep in cages etc... And their donkey's are no different. They have terrible working conditions, their owners are poor and let hooves get long so they weigh more as every cent feeds the family, etc. When I initially saw the big knives used to trim with I was a bit horrified then a part of me thought ok if you have a lot to remove and no power tools that could and does work... And was going to buy and send him a brand new set of nippers, a good rasp and good knife - then saw he has a set of nippers (though I think he used pullers at one stage to nip then realised there was a lump of metal in what he cut off against the flat edge...) But he's got the tools in a box or roll - he just prefers his knives. He will often do the job for free or very lowered costs and in the ones I've been able to use subtitles for, the dude narrating has said he is educating sternly the owners on not letting them get that way. So now I'm in two minds. If he's all they have, and the KZbin channel makes him money to keep him able to keep doing the feet for next to nothing, fine. Lack of training the animals is an owner issue, some of the methods of restraint are beyond old school.

This donkey was far better behaved. The Chinese farrier is dealing with very nasty donkeys. Amazing job he does.

noticed that, too .. but learned the farmers in Asia free-range the asses communally in the off-season, sometimes for many months without contact. the Master farrier is also acts as the vet. they round up the horses & asses + any new foals

I love how you're always so gentle and patient with the animals and you always do a great job with their feet, even if it may not end up perfect on an animal that's scared and has bad feet to begin with you really set them on the right track to recovery. Well done!

I think it's aw3some that you showed patience and a caring attitude with the donkey. I watch a Chinese farrier show and the donkeys are so abused there. It is horrible how they take care of them. So sad. So this was a blessing to see

I'd say this donk has had mild sedation, even so doesn't seem remotely dangerous!! Farrier nice and quiet with him, no rushing, good experience for little chap, have to say watching the Asian farriers is brutal
