I think about when my boyfriend, now husband went there in 1959 on our scooter, we just pulled up outside the House of Commons , parked our scooter there, popped our helmets over the handle bars, then went into the House of Commons for a tour, came out and our scooter and helmets there in tact.. Beautiful Britain then, think we had the best years, so sad now..

Well i stood in my local town yesterday evening and it was very dark and a gang of these boat people came up the road from the local hotel while i was waiting for a lift home they scared the life out of me and one of the shop owners offered me his doorway which was lit up to stand in just to get out of the way!! I’d be a nervous wreck walking from shop to shop , or landmark to landmark . I am from the US. I was in London a million years ago and all i wanted was to come back. I was in Europe before here. I was a bit shocked. People weren't laughing or joking. My hotel ripped me off. The mistakes that were mistakes in Washington DC. Along the museums are parks and trails. They turn the lights out early. That stops people to go gather and socialize at night. Concerts, sports, foodcarts. It could really change a community. Christmas lights and holiday cheer is a big burst of moral when things seem gloomy. Bread and circuses are sometimes needed

Used to go to London regularly and think nothing of taking the last train back to Brum. Haven't stepped foot in London for years - no point, the theatre is tedious now and not what it was. Same with Oxford st et al. Cheaper and easier now that we have moved, to take the local ferry to France. Mind you, that country is not what it was either. Couple of years ago, a friends neighbour went to London and 2 kind strangers whisked her out of the way of a machete attack at the bus stop she was at. She still has flash backs - not fun when you are in your 70s.
