The solo skiff adventures continue! Only this time I brought my 16 skiff into the Hillsborough River in Tampa the other day to see what I could catch, did not expect to catch so many HUGE Gar ?! Not gonna lie, those teeth were intimidating & Im happy to report I didn't get hurt ! Even after a few close calls. lol
Thanks so much for watching!

Wow... what a mess. Reminds me once when I was in my Kayak fishing for bass. Caught a big channel catfish on my rubber crawdad. It dragged me around this creek channel/cove I was in and kept trying to pull me into a lot of low hanging tree limbs full of spiders! While fighting it, my other pole was dangling in the water with a jerk bait. A bass came up and snagged it. I quickly opened the bail on the reel to let line out so he didn't take my rod/reel. They ended up criss-crossing my lines. IT WAS A MESS! haha. I was able to finally land them both into my net. Most crazy moment in my fishing years. haha Looks like you could use a net. ... Side note. I wish they sold those Skiffs here in the midwest. Looks perfect for our small Ozark rivers here in Missouri. Especially if they could be made with an aluminum bottom.

Definitely prehistoric catches, kinda looked funny with you holding both rods at your sides like a flag girl 😅 There were a few of them that were massive! Glad the one didn’t sink it’s teeth in you when it wiggled out of your hands into the skiff, gotta say you’re pretty agile getting out of harms way! Thanks for sharing, no tarpon but definitely not skunked!

Erica that needle nose gar tried to bite you. Shame on it they aren't bad eating. So long as you eat them when they are. Still hot or pressure cook them and make Patty's or gar balls fried in oil. Like salmon patties just don't eat the roe very poisonous to humans and pet' enjoyed this video. God bless you and your family love you my friend

Hey Erica, Don't feel too bad about the "gar" trip (LoL). I think just about anyone who has fished a river has had a day or night just like that. One night I fished the Kaw River for some giant catfish. As soon as I threw out the bait, something hit it almost instantly. I would get it within 3-4 feet from the boat and it got off. Did this all night until I finally got one hooked and got it to the boat. It was gar I was dealing with the entire time I was there. I never went back. Nothing more frustrating than that. Still love the video. Keep up the good work. Waiting for your next video. Good luck girl...

We use to fun fish those with yellow hallow braided rope , about hand length ! No hook is needed you just keep pressure on them and it holds they teeth. Fluff it up and cast it out. Tickle it like a top water bait.

Only thing we got on the Canadian West coast comparable to those fish with teeth are the KanEHdian women in the country bar on a Friday night. I sure wouldn't want to be skinny dippin in those Florida waters. Yikes. Florida girl Ms. Lynn is easy on the eyes though. With the way she tosses the fish back into the water, not sure you want to tangle with her on a Friday night either. ;). Careful what ya dangle in the water eh!

I've caught a lot of tarpon in that river. Try live croakers and finger mullet under a float for those tarpon. You can catch both in the river with a small cast net. Creek chubs also work well and you can get those at some local bait shops. DOA Baitbusters and 52Ms (purple and red/white) also work well.

. they are fearsome preditors of little fish.. and snakes.. actaully they will eat anything.. good you let it go, they are too spiney for eating.. if you do eat them, the guts are toxic, so you open them up from the top cutting through the scales with a good strong kitchen shears that can cut through the scales, and then use a sharp knife to cut out the back strap of meat, the rest is un-edible. but to those who have tried it, do seem to like it. its just too damn much waste per pound you only get a sliver of meat.
