Ikr? The thing that bothered me most was the fact that ,they shaved down her perfectly healthy, strong, lovely white teeth to fit these veneers. She still looked beautiful afterwards ...but no more beautiful than she was before. Im glad the dentist did not close it completely like Tyra suggested! Also, veneers can break ,and are not very strong nor are they made to last forever. I am so glad she won, she is my all time fav..

Veneers are pretty terrible in general, but when teeth are overcrowded like hers were, the only way to really fix it is by removing teeth. Tons of people just have too many teeth and not enough mouth space, and even with healthy teeth it can cause problems over time since they can be harder to clean and bacteria can get trapped in the less accessible areas. I hate to bring this up on an old ass comment, but the negative response to the teeth pulling bothered me because it's such a routine and necessary thing (and not just in the US).

bort sampson But what about braces? Orthodontics have been around just as long, or even longer. I understand the extraction of four teeth. Because she did have severe overcrowding and there was nothing they can do, other than to remove teeth to create space necessary. But veneers are a lifelong thing. She’s so much better off with her natural teeth and braces. Rather than shaving down 12, it feels too much of an abrasive tactic. And before you bring it up, yes, it’s a modeling competition that gets filmed over a period of weeks, while orthodontics take months to several years. I personally would’ve had Joanie go and have that work done, then invite her back in a future cycle. Because veneers are long term maintenance compared to just wearing a retainer every night.

I really felt for Joanie. I think it was utter bullcrap that they removed so many of her teeth, then filed down what remained. Right before this seasoned aired (I believe) one of my front teeth on top broke when I was horesplaying with my boyfriend at the time. It only broke off halfway at the bottom, & me not knowing how the process worked, thought they would just file me tooth down where it broke & glue a toothlike substance onto that to make it whole again. The dentist did not warn me or anything & just said "I'm going to file your tooth down just a LITTLE." When he put that mirror in my face & showed me that Chicklet of a nub that was left, I holla'd like a banshee. Now mind you, I have sizeable front teeth, like rodent sized. And to go from that to a Tic Tac?!! I asked him, "Where was the 'little bit' in the amount of filing he did. Anyway, he gave me a temporary cap to wear over it, which he assured me wouldn't come out. But it did. 2x. One time at my boyfriend's place & one time at work when I was stuck there in the middle of a hurricane with no power. It fell down the sink & I had to take the pipe apart, but that's a whole nutha talkshow . . . To this day, I'm still fearful of it falling out & how I'd look. Secondly, he also claims he "had" to do a root canal cuz the nerve got damaged by the impact that caused the tooth to brake. Ironically, to this day, I still have perfect sensation, i.e., a dull, underlying pain in that tooth despite him removing & subsequently showing the nerve to me. And to top it all off, that ONE tooth wiped out the thousand & something dollars I had in my savings, plus I had to get on a payment plan with his office to make up the difference because I had an HMO & he only took PPO & he was not in my network, but I had no choice cuz my tooth broke when I was out of town. The job I had at the time was my first jib with benefits after college & I didn't even know the difference between HMO & PPO & whatever else kinds of plans there are cuz I had been on my parents insurance up til then, & nobody @ my job bothered to explain it to me. They just forced me tp choose sonething so they could meet their deadline. So I basically "eenie, meenie, minie moed" it when I was going through the plans in the book they gave me. But after that thousand-plus dollar tooth fiasco, I bet you I knew the difference. Anyway, I said all that to say, I only had 1 tooth filed. Joanie had 4 or 5 teeth filed. And they were all in front. If she had a shoddy job done on them, can you imagine how she'd look if the veneers ever fell out?? She's wanna find a hole in the ground to go jump into. Her teeth were not thar crooked. Hell. Tyra thought she was cute enough with them as they were to choose her for the competition. At most, all she needed was that one awkward tooth pulled, & she could've left the rest alone. Especially if I had previously had the experience I previously explained, I would've told Tyra, "Fuck this. And fuck YOU." Get a different hair color or losing a little hair length is one thing. But permanently altering my teeth for a competition I could eliminated from for tomorrow is NOT what I signed up for." People always get mad at some of these girls for getting mad at Tyra's choices for them, think they should be grateful. But I've lived in this body longer than anyone else, so I think I know a little better what's best for me than someone else. Plus, those girls have to live with those changes after the show is over. Not Tyra. Not Mr. Jay. Not Ms. Jay. Not any of them judges. This was way TOO much.

She made up her mind and they forced her in the other direction, and you could tell she wasn’t comfortable with what they made her do. 3:00 I dunno who this dentist is but he really misled Joanie there. What he described are dental _crowns._ Crowns require the entire tooth to be shaved down to a peg-like shape, and the crown is overlaid on top. It’s a _much_ more invasive procedure than simple veneers. Not to mention crowns being much more costly to maintain in the long run. Veneers are shells that fit at the front of the tooth, either for cosmetic, or restoration purposes and don’t always require the shape of the tooth to be altered.

If Tyra actually cared about the girls like she claims she does, she would have paid for Joanie to have braces behind the teeth, so that she could keep her teeth and eventually have perfect ACTUAL teeth. Forcing her to shave them down to stumps is not only cruel but also immoral. The dentist who did this should loose his licence. Shaving down perfectly healthy teeth, and it doesn’t matter if they’re crooked, they were still healthy, should be taken much more seriously. We’ve seen such an awful rise with this with the turkey teeth trend.

to all the people saying why tyra closed danielle'sgap but made chelsea's wider: cycle 6 was aired in 2005/2006, cycle 15 was in 2010/2011, in those years the modeling industry became more flexible with gaps. now it's ok for a model to have a gap but tyra told danielle to close her gap then because she knew covergirl would not accept her that way.

For all of you people shaming Tyra, I think you need to realize this was from season 6, which was way back in 2006 where having gap teeth was a big no-no. I have gap teeth and would have said no, as well, but Tyra was right. Danielle would have never gotten work with the gap back then. Now having a gap is considered the "in" thing. Fashion is an area that is always changing, so stop shaming Tyra for doing what was best for both both Joanie and Danielle at the time.
