CarlSagan42 Made A Sequel To "Please Just Do Better" In Mario Builder 64...

With the recent release of Mario Builder 64 (romhacking.com...) made by Rovertronic and Authurtilly, the fans have done what Nintendo won't...and that's give us Mario Maker 3D (kind of)!
Our good friend ‪@CarlSagan42‬ has made a level within Mario Builder 64 called "Please Just Do Better 2", a sequel to my LEAST favorite Mario Maker level ever. Is the sequel as bad as the original? Let's find out!

I remember watching a race between Poo and Carl where both hadn't played the game since they were kids and I forget who won but both of them got 70 stars in like 5ish+ hours. It wouldn't surprise me if they found out what a BLJ was in the time since then.

@@alvianekka80 Yes. It's a trick that speed runners use to infinitely gain speed (backwards) to be able to get past the endless stair case without needing 70 stars in the original bowser (and I think it's used to clip somewhere in the basement as well).

They use it to get past the upstairs star door into the clock room and then to get past endless staircase. They don't use it in the basement, the big trick down there is mips clip.

@@FalseHerald (I was unsure if I was correct about it's use in the basement) I can't post links in comments but if you look up videos of 0 and 1 star world record runs you'll see it is used to clip into the Bowser star door in the basement. The MIPS clip is used to effectively do the same thing but in the 16 star speed run (I guess 16 stars is when MIPS firat appears?)

For people in the Mario Maker community, there is a very well-known and consistent way to set up a softlock. If Mario falls onto an upwards-facing slope, he'll slide on his belly. When Mario starts sliding on his belly, he cannot jump. Therefore, if you create a situation where Mario infinitely slides by making a V-shape using two slopes (or a slope and a wall), Mario will be escape from the hole. This belly slide also happens whenever Mario lands after diving.

4:00 That's not custom code. It's just a SM64 bug that requires both a frame-perfect input and misaligned floor tiles. The result is Mario ducking while being stuck in a different animation. It's sometimes (but not always) a softlock depending on the exact circumstances. No idea if Carl stuck that in on purpose, but it would require quite a bit of game knowledge to do so.
