At the start of January, I spent ten days in Morocco… On the last day of the trip, a solid swell filled in, and I got a little taste of Morocco’s most famous break. It was extremely crowded, but I managed to pick off a few scraps… I hope there are enough cutbacks in there for you ;)
Also massive thanks to my girlfriend for filming!!

So good to see anchors again. Can't believe how busy it is and looks built up. Early 90's me a mate landed in Agadir , spent 6 weeks hitching up the coast sleeping rough with one bag each and our boards. Didn't see one European or hear English for 5 weeks .. best people, best time , felt a little out there and loved it .. peace

Not sure about others in the world. But where I grew up Australia it was a poor people's thing to do. Now in spots I see it as a cool rich person thing to do. Also, videos showcasing names and spots don't help as people rush to what's Instagram and KZbin popular. Parts of Mexico ruined for surfing, same as Indo and Sri Lanka where used to be ten people in the water is now 50+

@ that's interesting. i'm from california and here it's usually associated with wealthier people bc the poor live far from the beach and the equipment is usually expensive to get/rent. i agree that social media had a role but i don't think it's the main contributing one. people nowadays have more dispensable income than ever before. traveling is more affordable, people are having less kids and prioritizing experiences not to mention the world population keeps growing

We just heading out from a 6 week trip in Morocco, and yes most places are insanely crowded. A lot of dropping in, and most of the time knowingly/deliberate. I surfed Anchors and had someone drop in and take me out at the shins, left the water with a cut to the head. However there are some spots where I surfed alone or max 4 guys. The amount of dogs and cats is real, and Rabies is a thing. We had a dog that was being pushy and a 6month old in our crew, I ended up with broken skin so played safe and got all my vaccines while I was in country. They don’t have infrastructure for dealing with the litter so you are really travelling in an open tip. Millions of learners in the water who are not being guided correctly. A serious rip developed to the right of Anchor Point and some poor fella got sucked straight out and across the front the rocks. He would have had to paddle all the way to Taghazout. The surf is arriving later in the season, and we bumped into quite a few who travelled for the December/Xmas period and didn’t score. Most videos polish up Morocco but Dan seems to be pointing out things we should be aware of before committing to a surf trip. A lot of development is taken place with no plans for how to manage what we consider downsides. But to finish on a good note, when the swell arrives, it doesn’t really seem to stop. Any off day is almost a relief so you can rest.

@AdventuresKam 2 күн бұрын
Surfing in Morocco, like any top destination, comes with crowds and drop-ins-it’s part of the experience. I’ve never heard about rabies being a concern, but like anywhere, it’s good to take precautions. Infrastructure is evolving, and while it may not meet every expectation, Morocco still offers world-class waves. Every trip is what you make of it-if it wasn’t for you, there are always other places to explore. Wishing you good waves wherever you go next!

The police moved us on a couple of times but they weren’t aggressive in any way. Actually we found that quite a few vans didn’t bother moving. It mostly happened over Xmas and New Year, and we weren’t sure if it was happening when there were just too many campers and they just wanted to thin it out a bit.
