As someone who is asked this quite often, specially by children, I do not take offense in people asking me this. I'm comfortable with who I am and specially the kids ask this because they are curious, not because they are being rude or want to make me feel bad. In the end it's me that chooses what I want to look like or who I want to be and if people asking me what that is gives me a bad feeling, it's my confidence that needs work, not their curiosity.
