I always thought that Keaton and Pfeiffer had the best chemistry as Batman and Catwoman...two dark introverts trying to reach out to each other across the void of darkness...I guess the criticism can be made that Burton, as a director, was not 'interested' really in the Batman / Bruce Wayne character...especially in Returns...but I really think Bruce Wayne as a character does come out in relation to Selena / Catwoman in this film as they 'mirror' each other so completely and work off each other...and I think a lot of this does have to do with the actors themselves and Daniel Waters script.

Keaton and Pfeiffer dated for 5 months in 1988. Initially Keaton didn't want her to be catwoman. But they didn't hate each other, they separated amicably.
