yoo this is like the 6th devlog i think of my game karlson, which all started like 3 months ago when jotaro said i couldnt make a 3d game. in this one we'll be learning to make maps, bake light reee & make the first boss in Karlson (Willy). The reason this video was delayed a week is simply because I just didn't have much to show, since making maps for karlson is soooo slow

For anyone wondering, "Baking" Lights is technique in rendering (and Video games!) where you calculate the lighting before the scene is rendered then you save an image of the shadows, so all you have to do is simply ray-cast the lights and boom, the shadows are there. Im pretty stupid though so feel free to correct me

Going back, it would've been much better for the performance if instead of using 6 cubes or the whole/a majority of the level geometry being made with probuilder into one mesh, you'd have made that example cube room with 6 planes and occlusion culling, which i don't know if you already have occlusion culling but if the map is just one mesh made with probuilder, it will render the whole thing the entire time. The amount of draw calls and batches being lower due to it being one mesh won't make as much of an impact as occlusion culling with your whole map being made out of several modular pieces would. Take for instance Boneworks/Bonelab, the maps in these games (which can be really big and complex) mostly consist of modular pieces, the majority of those pieces being planes. Those paired up with their static batching system lowers the batches whilst enjoying the benefits of occlusion culling, just something that came to mind. p.s: thank you for making these videos, you were basically the cause of my interest in game-development and what not and i've gone the extra mile with this by learning to actually program and stuff like that so yeah, stay thicc dani.

Watching the gameplay, it looks like it would be fun if you had some kind of bullet deflection mechanic. A method I can think of is if you press a key the character will block with the sword for a quarter of a second. Any bullet that hits the character during that quarter of a second has its rotation changed to match the characters. You could also implement a cooldown on blocking so the player doesn't just deflect every bullet from the boss.

Yeah and I think it could come out, like, a combination of Willy and bullet-hell, due to the fact that he would get into a mechsuit, have a 4 beam laser blaster, 4 cluster missles which are fired in the direction of the player, but do *NOT* home in, summoning a few minions with guns, dashing and using his armblades (???) and, of course, a minigun.
