DDK lived here in Hawaii while he was doing Hawaii 5-0. He was adopted as local as he assimilated to the culture and exuded the Aloha spirit. But it was no problem with him because he is genuinely a grounded, generous, thoughtful person to the core. He will be successful and respected wherever he goes or whatever he does. Big Daniel Dae Kim fan. He did lose his sun tanned complexion tho now living on the east coast. 😀🤙🏼

Expect a "this is political correctness gone mad" arguments from certain elements of the media. The fact is, questioning this sort of thing isn't new. I remember talking about Breakfast at Tiffany's with a friend and her mother walked in and told us to stop, telling us how it should not be a respected film. She had taken her mother to see it at the cinema when it came out and when Mickey Rooney appeared, her mother stood up, grabbed her and marched out. Apparently, 2 others followed. Even then, people (inc some critics) knew his reprehensible portrayal was wrong.

I was preparing myself to be disappointed by Daniel’s hot take but was shocked by how much sense it made. i’m definitely using that answer going forward. I absolutely adored Miss Saigon in high school! Lived in the UK for several years after high school and got to see it in London. The evacuation scene is still one of the most amazing scenes I've ever seen on stage. This was a fun interview, and a worthy subject. I do recognize differences when it comes to Western Asians, Eastern Asians, and South-eastern Asians and have become annoyed when people are cast to play a particular ethnic person over another as if it doesn't matter. Not because this individual is incapable of carrying the role, but mainly because I know they were picked because society just doesn't care! It's all the same to them. But if we can get to a point where we do care, but are open to exploring the idea that ethnicity is important but not necessarily in this particular role then hopefully things will change.
