Years ago, I was talking to this guy, an owner of a bar I frequented. We got into this discussion of Trump vs. Hillary (during Trump's term), and he said while he hated Trump and could never vote for him, he could also never vote for Hillary. I asked him why. His response was, "Hillary let Bill cheat on her." I responded that I was pretty sure she didn't want him to cheat or gave him permission, and he said, "No, I'm not saying she encouraged it. But after it happened and she found out, she forgave him and they moved on together." In other words, Hillary was cheated on, she found out in a very public way, her and Bill worked on their marriage and made it work, and therefore, she's not qualified to be president. Incredible.

I grew up in a very small town, and I couldn't tell you what "values" set us apart from anyone else.

A typical example is community. Smaller towns are more likely for people to know their neighbours and even be friendly with them. If you know everyone around it tends to reduce the likelihood of the kinds of problems that arise in places with higher populations and thus greater anonymity. For me a simple way to come up with an idea of what 'values' they're referring to would be to look at the way small towns are portrayed in fictional works. They tend to condense them down to just a few of the most meaningful ideas (as they see them).

Joke's on you. He, actually, hates it (I know this because he's mentioned it many times before) whenever people assume that he's Chinese because he's not. He's Malaysian. As a matter of fact, he hates China (because of its bullying tendencies to the smaller countries of the Asian Pacific region).
