I remember the scenes in Ireland when he won, the country went nuts! Who cares if he is English, he's done so many Irish films over the years and taken the country to his heart to such an extent that we have subsequently adopted him as one of our own. Jack Charlton was English, St. Patrick was Welsh, Michael Flatley is American..... go figure!

i finally saw my Left foot recently and was amazed as always the first time i saw him was The Boxer which is an underrated performance as well, Gangs Of New York incredible and of course Lincoln and There Will Be Blood also check out if u havent The Age Of Innocence another film he did with Martin Scorsese

@Symmetryful Have you met him? if so, do tell. He does seem to be very thoughtful in every interview. In the Charlie Rose interview promoting the Ballad of Jack and rose with himself and his wife (the writer and director of the film), he did a much better job of describing her movie than she did. He should write because he talks like a writer and contributes to his characters like a writer (inventing characteristics and even some dialogue that wasn't in the script)

@MrLewyboy Um, yes, he is English. At least half English...He has an English mother, an English upbringing until the age of 36, an Irish father with an English upbringing and he now has current dual citizenship in Ireland and England. In this interview, does this man sound at all Irish? LOL>
