A year ago, Bear's fans were saying if Fields does not quite live up to expectations, we can package our draft picks and get a QB. Well, here we are with Justin still needing to be better and we do not have to package picks holding that #1 golden ticket!

Common sense but bear fans secretly like having a mediocre qb so they have something to bitch about. 1 career 300 yd game, 24 games under 200 with some sensational runs and they lose their minds and make every excuse for him. Great kid, average at best passer. Can’t win with that

Two COMPLETELY different situations. The problem with Jones is that he's just not that talented. What the Bears did to Fields was almost criminal with the dearth of talent that was on the team in 2022. They didn't give him one single wide receiver that could've even made the 1977 Bears rosters which sands Walter Payton was one of the worse offenses in NFL history. Then when you combine that with an OC who clearly was out of his league this was not on Fields. However right now the Bears are in a position where they can trade down to 2 or 3 still draft Marvin Harrison Jr., draft either Alt or the LT out of Penn St. & hire an OC that knows what the hell he's doing.
@Dom2.0
@Dom2.0 11 ай бұрын
The problem with what you're saying is they have been top to bottom rebuilding and haven't given him the weapons or a line to even have a fair chance. You put him on the 49ers for example and they probably go undefeated, instead Purdy is praised but you put Purdy on the bears and they probably only win 3 games 😂

As a Giants fan, how many years did it take for you to wrap your arms around Eli? As a Jets fan, I still regret that they took Zach over trading out for three 1's and a 2nd. He didn't get into the full eval of both QBs, but, generally, he's saying that 1. Caleb does things passing the ball that Fields doesn't (e.g. get the ball out quick, no weird windup); that Caleb is a special, albeit imperfect, QB. 2. Justin is a Good, Not Great starting NFL QB, but you will need to pay him Great, Not Good money soon (see Daniel Jones situation) 3. it makes more sense to draft a higher rated QB who will be on a cheaper contract than the other options. Again, not saying I agree, but that is what he is saying.

What nobody is talking about re: salary cap and keeping Fields is that by trading down from #1 overall the Bears will be able to fill holes at other positions with the expected haul in picks they receive. Not saying this is the route they go but you're missing a big part of the equation by not including the savings from a bevvy of rookie contracts vs. filling via FA.

i mean if you wanna bring salary cap into it let's do it. if they keep fields he's going to demand getting paid. there's no way a qb plays on his fifth year option, all that money you so smartly thought you're saving by moving down a couple draft picks (then using those picks to select other high first round picks who are just as expensive) with all that money you're going to just have to give it to fields. draft williams bozo

Guys, see the field and recognize all of the factors of football. Jordan Love and CJ have great coaches, good to great lines, and multiple WRs that create separation, understand leverages, and find the soft spots in zones for their QBs, Justin has NONE of those things. 1 good WR and a weak o line doesn't get a single QB in the nfl anywhere. Dan Jones' deal was 4 @ $40M which is a tad more than what this years #1 Overall Pick is projected at (1 year vs. entire rookie deal). So, if the Bears followed the Dan Jones scenario precisely they would spend 3x what they would pay for the #1 Overall Pick over four years. If the Bears pick up the 5th year option and then start franchsing, it's worse than the Jones deal. The math doesn't add up, Poles has to use the #1 pick on a QB or try to roll the hard six with Fields or trading down.

They could get a quality one in the 3rd round if they don't get a 2nd round pick back, which, if they're taking Williams at 1, then they're trading Fields, and they'll likely get back that 2nd rounder for Fields, so they can pick a center in the 2nd round. Spot on about Caleb. He was just BOMBARDED on every passing play around the half-way point of the season and the dude still looked like a NFL QB starting in college. The outside noise and non football bs has clouded the fact that the dude is really one of those cant pass up number one picks. He might be an egomaniacal douchbag, but that could be the fact that he's a millionaire in college! Chicago would be unbelievably stupid to keep Justin Fields over Caleb Williams

Here's what's wild. Some media circles say Justin could fetch a 1st round pick, even in a deep Quarterback class, he's still valued at 1st round pick. Why trade him? You could trade the top pick this year to the Patriots for multiple picks, they get Drake Maye, he busts anyway at one. Caleb goes to Washington with whatever mess they set up there, and we got multiple 1st rounders, MHJ, and hopefully a competent offensive staff our window gets pretty large for years to come if we do. You're an attractive franchise that way, and you have a guy, that the best players in this league want to go and play for. That type of value for a player who's show signs of progression as well and you added 4 wins to your roster in year 2 of a rebuild. For a guy like Ryan Poles who wants good culture guys with lots of talent, CW has to be Superman, he'd have to be. Rookie mistakes would be accepted but only once every few games. He'd have to be better than Stroud or close to it, which is the exception, and not the rule.
