McCarthy being first pick in this draft comparing the college tape would not be a football decision, to put it politely. Michigan took the ball out of his hands for a half of football in one of their biggest games in his last year.

I think trait based scouting at the QB position is why you have so many misses in early rounds. You need people who can just play the position and who have the mentality needed to lead a team. I don't really follow the college game, but this guy just convinced me that Shedeur should be picked up early, because he listed the traits I'd value.

@@proteuswest1084 This right here is the most accurate statement on here. Thus is why Purdy, Rodgers, Jackson, Montana and Brady all fell in the draft. They didn’t “wow” with their arm like Josh Allen or legs like Vick. Bottom line is can he play the position? I think yes but I think Cam Ward is still better. I also think based on this that Dart should be taken in the late first round.

⚠️ This is long! I operate in the scouting world. Tape review. I get paid by the NBA for tape review and I consult with multiple FCS D2 and HS football teams. Here's what I see. 1. McCarthy. Good mold. This means he fits the size metric very well. You gotta be able to see. He can. Good arm B+. Not a playmaker with his throws, but very accurate in the pocket. Played in a terrible system for evaluation. Mobile enough. Shows Grace under pressure. I'd grade him at around 81. That's a B-. Mostly because of the system and the lack of snaps. 2. Sanders. Good height. I'd like to see him at 225-230 vs 210-215. If he can bulk up, he'll be better off. He has trouble getting up sometimes because he's so thin on that frame. That's against mediocre guys. In the NFL, he's out a couple weeks on those hits. His arm strength is horrendous. Yes, he can get a ball deep, but it's floating there. Zero velocity. Very weak arm. Joe Montana had the same issue. Not necessarily a no go. You'd to invent an offens for him specifically. He's not good enough right now to justify that. Fast. Good agility. Bad decision maker on when to run vs when to move up. Great at reading the field. Doesn't have the arm to make some necessary throws. 78. He's a high level project. Anthony Richardson. 3. Ward. Physically, he's the most desirable. Big arm, good speed, prototype size. Mentally, he's got some work to do. He has a bad tendency to lock in. He's pretty easy to read. He can fit the ball into the tight spots. He's very raw. He looks right, but so did Lance and AR. High risk/high payout. Not very intelligent on paper, supposedly. A little brash. He might not interview well. 81 but his ceiling is the highest. Has the highest floor too. Played in the best system. So...... You have 1 true Dual threat in Ward. A pocket prototype in McCarthy, and a Giraffe on roller skates Scrambler(Lamar Jackson's actual raw summary) in Sanders. That's 3 very different guys. In a close draft where the grades are similar, it comes down to fit, usually. However, McCarthy comes from a known QB coaching talent in Jim. The other 2 don't and one played for his dad, so that seriously affects how you look at him. In my educated opinion, McCarthy is the safest pick. None are ideal or even really preferential. It's not a good draft. I'm surprised Will Howard isn't getting noticed. On tape, he's the only guy I'd be advocating for taking in the first 15 picks. Possibly 1 if it's the right situation. McCarthy is a known quantity. This theoretical isn't fair to Shady or Cam. The injury JJ took would make me very nervous to risk a 1 on him. Shady and Cam are both 2-3 rounders in my grading scale. Projects. One has all the tools, the other is hyper athletic for the position. It's either Lance and AR all over again, or it might be Jayden and Lamar V2. McCarthy might be Trubisky. It's all high risk.

@RodmanTackleAdvisor great breakdown. Shaduer doesn't have any elite traits, but in my opinion, he's just good at being a QB. I think that's how players like Purdy and Brady drop. So what do you think draft him top 3 or he falls and a team like Dallas picks him up?? I was thinking we could get Travis then try and trade back up for him. What do you think. And that's an excellent breakdown.

Some prove everybody wrong, and some don't. It's a tough business, and nobody owes SS02 anything. He's accurate and he can make all the throws. He also holds the ball too long, he's not a very good runner, and teams have to figure out if he's coachable. He's never played for anybody other than his dad, and he made a lot of bonehead plays last year. It's up to SS02 to prove himself. He'll get his chance to do that.

They do this every year during draft season to QB’s . He said Sheduer doesn’t have an exceptional size/height , arm , or athleticism … last time I checked him and JJ are around the same height and weight 😂 and Sheduer has a WAY BETTER ARM. this guy is just yapping . Also, i keep seeing in the comments people saying ive heard sanders did this and done that. Yall hear alot of stuff but don’t have the proof. If you don’t have the proof save the “they said”. You dont know his personality and you dont know his character. Only the coaches and people around him. That goes for every draft prospect who you haven’t seen any proof of what “they said”. I feel the reason why Shedeur is dropping a little bit is because of these things: 1. NFL scouts have noticed that Shedeur holds the ball too long instead of just throwing it away. Then ends up getting sacked because of this NOT necessarily because of his OL which was improved a little bit from a pass blocking standpoint. 2. Kind of a by product of the first item listed. When Shedeur holds the ball too long, ALL too often during the season, he would tend to retreat backwards 15 to 25 yards and gett sacked for a huge loss hurting Colorado's' field position. This is an ABSOLUTE NO, NO in the NFL. Scouts report back to the head coach and give their opinion as to if they think that this sort of habit will hurt the team when going to the playoffs could hinge on a QB making good decisions. 3. Shedeur is not as athletic as Cam Ward and his arm is not as strong as Wards. Strong arm and anticipation matters in the NFL because the CBs and Safeties are bigger and faster. 4. Many scouts are comparing Shedeur to Caleb Williams. Caleb however is a little more athletic and his arm is stronger. Also, Caleb had better habits when it came to throwing the ball away when nothing was there as opposed to running 20-25 yards backward and taking a huge loss when sacked. 5. Rumors going around about Shedeurs maturity. Stories about him renting out a strip club for his teammates while they should have been focusing on the Alamo bowl. Evidently Travis Hunter was not one of the players who went to the club. Whether this is true, I don't know, but this is being talked about. Is Shedure the first QB to rent out a strip club, probably not, but it is a bad look when winning the Alamo bowl should have been the primary focus. PROS: 1. Shedeur has great pocket presence when he stays in it. 2. Shedeur is very accurate with the majority of his throws. 3. Shedeur was good at making something out of nothing, with his scrambling as long as he was not running 20-25 yards backward. 4. Shedeur was above average when going through his reads. 5. Shedeur displayed outstanding toughness throughout the year, even when he took cheap shots on many occasions.

Dead on about everything except this: " Caleb however is a little more athletic"... Caleb is 20 times more athletic. He'd out run Shedeur, he's a quicker, twitchier athlete who doesn't try to run enough. The Bears might've been better had he tried to... Shedeur is VERY slow and got away with it against subpar big 12 play, and was exposed against BYU.

@@legionmartin 4.5 is as fast as some RB's in the league. 4.3 is as fast as a WR but I'll pushback again at trying to keep them anywhere near each other in speed. Honestly they are completely different game wise, Caleb is more like Ward than Shedeur based on creativity and playing off script. Only thing off script about Shedeur is not throwing on time but speed?? It doesn't even compare. The young man made plays against the worse teams in the big 12. It didn't work against Nebraska, didn't work against K-St, didn't work against BYU, and didn't work against Kansas. When he gets to the league, he's going to look slower than he did in college. I can't see him running any better than a 4.8, 4.9 and if he does run better it'll be the most generous stop watch performance than it was a 40 yard dash. I'm not tryna hate, but it's the only thing i can't agree with from that essay of truth you wrote. He doesn't shift well from side to side, he isn't agile. Caleb got sacked the most in the NFL and a lot of that is on him and from that perspective i understand why you'd compare the 2, but he made some lineman, LB's and DB's look foolish because his ability to evade. Shedeur needs a lane to run and even when he does he doesn't know how to get down.

Ya that's deceptive. He will do everything he can to throw the ball. In a way, his pocket discipline is a serious issue. He almost never, ever runs to space. He's not slow at all. He'll do well at the combine on the 40. He just wants to be a pocket QB. He's not. He doesn't have the arm. He needs to adapt to running for yardage instead of running away from trouble. That's why the ypc is terrible. He constantly runs backwards to buy time, relying on an arm he doesn't have. He constantly outruns DLs. That's pretty much the metric.

Why do you think Deion Sanders hired Tom to train him. You all think Tom is doing that for free.?!? 😂 Deion has money other parent don’t. Personal Tom Brady lessons.

@Rak1966 I've seen most of it. He's a throwback to guys like Horning, Tittle minus the arm, and Montana. Adequate speed. Bad arm. Top end awareness. He's going to be difficult to develop in a standard scheme. I'd almost do a hybrid Pats dynasty/Ravens scheme. RPO and no deep routes. His IQ is off the charts. That counts.

Its quite easy to understand if youve bern paying attention to Colorado thru the videos of Well off and reach the people. All of the nfl has sent scouts to Colorado this yr. Theyve all been shown on camera at practices in August and during bowl week. Those who dont have a evaluation on Shedeur are the scouts who dont have a top pick. The raiders, titans and Jags and Browns aint saying that. 😂 its very hard to keep these lies running when well off filmed enough stuff to debate all of the embellishing headlines all the outside national media has thrown at CP this yr. No wonder he put together his own media team. Smh

College defenses are nowhere near as fast or powerful as those in the NFL. Sanders was not consistent in dealing with them. He needs lots of experience and good coaching to reach his peak.

So they still running with this narrative. I’ve never seen media work so hard to dismiss the talents of Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders to drive down their draft stock. It’s becoming pretty obvious now. They ask the scout why not and goes into specifying Shedeur’s good points. Now the negative is that Shedeur is an overachiever…😅.

If you think Shedeur is QB1 fine that’s your opinion. But to say it’s just clear cut and dry like Cam Ward doesn’t have a case or a claim to be QB1 is rediculous. Cam has more than enough Case that he’s the best QB in this draft if you don’t think so that’s fine but the tape and the numbers speak for themself
@Vol2169

Lololololol. JJ was 35th in passing yards with 2,991, 37th with 22 TD’s he threw the ball 332 times his senior year. Michigan did not rely on him as a passer. They wan the Natty in spite of him. There is no statistical evidence that would even make you believe he was more accurate, had a better arm or was/is as talented as Shedeur. ZERO. I wish the show hosts would give some historical or statistical pushback when these fools come on here with their “expert” opinions. There is no way in hell that Shedeur is not the #1 qb prospect and is better than JJ. Without a doubt.
