I will admit that I find a lot of the children’s acting in the first two HP films a bit, well, awkward. However, there was a simple line delivery of DR’s in the third film that really made me sit up and think, “Hey, this kid is really learning!” It’s when they are walking down the aisle on the train looking for an open compartment, and Harry says in response to Ron re: his blowing up Aunt Marge, “Actually, I was lucky not to be arrested!” I don’t know why, but that delivery was very natural and utterly believable, and really struck home with me how good he was getting.

That line is from prisoner of Azkaban and he was 13 in that movie. I love how he delivered that line too

Every child actor must re-learn how to act if they are to continue to have a career as an adult. The old ways of getting by as a child actor no longer work as you mature. That's why you see so many struggle to make the transition. Once you lose that natural sense of play you're screwed without some tools of the trade.

But also, once you're an adult, you have to take roles of adult characters, which are far more nuanced than your typical kid in a film stumbling around bright eyed in every scene

I love Dan but the interviewer is pathetic trying to kiss up to him and justify the fact the he sucked in the first films. Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap,Linda Blair in The Exorcist, Anna Paquin in The piano, Liesel Pritzker in A Little Princess, Tatum O' Neal in Paper Moon, Kirsten Dunst in Interview With The Vampire or Brad Renfro in The Client... All those kids gave breathtaking performances as their first acting job.

Daniel Radcliffe is a guy who you could tell was getting better and better as the HP films went on. He was arguably the stiffest out him, Emma, and Rupert when they first started, but by the time they did the DH P1 and P2, you could tell there was a maturity to his acting performance.

This is very insightful! Also, I think he is fairly good! I mean come on, for a 12 year old with no real experience playing the lead character, he did it well. Of course, he made mistakes, but it doesn't make him bad! Not now, or in his childhood! That is how you learn. It is tough, I really started at 12 and knew nothing compared to what I know now! Acting is something you learn and get better with over time! Think about it, we would have never known him had he never played Harry. We wouldn't even know who he really is! So, people who hated on him, please think about that first!

Well, he did have some experience, wasn't he David Copperfield in a movie or something? Having said that, I loved him in the first movies, I thought he was very good. Harry wouldn't be the same without him.

Well I’m definitely biased, but I thought he was great! Growing up with the films, I think the main thing was being able to relate to his character. Watching the films as an adult, I think the acting holds up. I remember reading a tidbit somewhere that he improvised one of the lines at the end of the second movie when Lucius says let’s hope mr. Potter will always be around to save the day, and Harry says don’t worry I will be. So I think it’s pretty cool that he was connecting with the character enough to inhabit it. And I think in the earlier films his young age really did lend a credibility to the experiences of the character. I think in the later films is when his job gets more difficult, but still I think he was Harry Potter. It never didn’t feel authentic. Maybe it was because that’s how we identified the actor, but I also think he was able to bring depth to the role

i would have thought, from his later performances on the potter series, that he had discovered this before. i just re watched order of the phoenix and he's really nuanced and moving in it. just shows how talented he is. also, by that time he was probably very in tune with the character
