I love to compare Daniel Ricciardo to a guy named Adam Cianciarulo from motocross. Adam, like Daniel, is just one of those personalities that you love to see succeed. Incredibly well spoken, very humble, and never shy's away from critiquing himself before his team or the bike. Adam is now getting into the commentary world for Motocross/Supercross and it's awesome to see the input from a newly retired rider from the modern era of racing. I think that sort of position would suit Daniel really well if he wants to stay in the F1 world somehow without being involved with a race team. One of my favorites since coming back to watching F1 in 2014ish. I was disappointed when he left RedBull. As an American, I'm hoping he comes to Indycar, because its just another series I watch closely. I hope he races somewhere a bit before thinking about becoming a media commentator. I would love the Rookies sprint idea, but I wonder if it would be 10 or 20 cars, and if there would be some caveat to "rookies". Because I rather it be 20 junior formula drivers than a third being Indycar drivers and the other being FE drivers, both without any real chance of getting into F1, and maybe 6 rookies, 5 of which already have their 2025 seat secured.

But if it is mostly "boring" names (like Dennis or Cassidy who are in FE, sponsored by RedBull but won't get to F1, or Pietro Fittipaldi) who are technically rookies but not really, I don't think it would be great.

Danny has stated in the past that he has no interest in a full time gig in NASCAR as it’s not what he knows. Which frankly he is right. The only driver with a measurable amount of success is JP Montoya and he had a stint in Indy and I would say JP was vastly more talented than Danny at their peaks. The last thing I want for Danny is to become a Danica Patrick level talent whose career is summed up with the term Pay Driver.

I don't disagree that Ricciardo left Red Bull originally because he didn't want to play second fiddle to Verstappen, but let's be honest here; is any one of us turning down a $55 million 2 year contract in the same situation? He went from $6.25mil/yr to $27.5mil/yr. Verstappen's contract in 2019-2020 was only $13mil/yr, so you'd have to assume the contract offered by RB to Ricciardo was around $10mil/yr, certainly a nice pay raise over his previous contract, but Renault made him an offer he couldn't refuse. After that, it was just a game of trying to stay in F1 while still getting paid. I think that huge Renault contract was the beginning of the end for his reduced ambition to take the racing risks he made early in his career. He certainly had some nice drives at Renault, and even a few good ones at McLaren! My favorite Ricciardo moment was actually with McLaren at the 2022 Mexican GP where he called his own shot on Ocon as he blew past him on the front straight. He had an amazing tire strategy that race and was blowing past everyone on softs late to finish 7th. I'm hoping we see Ricciardo in NASCAR or IndyCar, but if he does switch to either of those series, I expect him to be middle of the pack at best.
