Can you expand on this? Although I'm a long-time F1 fan I don't fully grasp this aspect of the rules. I'm familiar with the cost cap, allocated time for wind tunnel testing etc., but I do not understand the constraints placed on time in the sim, on track and "at the factory". Thank you.

I still think the sprints should be rookie races. With implications for the constructor's championship and not the driver's. Admitedly, there should be some sort of aside in the budget cap for any damage and such.

I love to compare Daniel Ricciardo to a guy named Adam Cianciarulo from motocross. Adam, like Daniel, is just one of those personalities that you love to see succeed. Incredibly well spoken, very humble, and never shy's away from critiquing himself before his team or the bike. Adam is now getting into the commentary world for Motocross/Supercross and it's awesome to see the input from a newly retired rider from the modern era of racing. I think that sort of position would suit Daniel really well if he wants to stay in the F1 world somehow without being involved with a race team. Also i just wanna add that I'm loving these podcasts Mr. V! I don't tend to watch/listen to full lenght podcasts very often, but I haven't missed a show or a single minute, so hats off to you

Heyyyy... I watch FP1. Mostly for the commentary to be honest. Gonna miss Danny Ric. Really weird how he fell off so suddenly with McLaren. I mean I know Norris and Piastri are quick, but DR and Max were very close in the red Bull before he left. I just like his personality as well. One of my favorites since coming back to watching F1 in 2014ish. I was disappointed when he left RedBull. As an American, I'm hoping he comes to Indycar, because its just another series I watch closely. I hope he races somewhere a bit before thinking about becoming a media commentator. (The USA ESPN just pipes Sky F1 to us too btw). He deserves more success driving a race car before he hangs up his helmet. Keep doing these. I really enjoy your insight. Cheers 👍🏼

A couple of the potential problems with the rookie race could be fixed by incentivizing the teams to try to win. They could maybe even justify awarding points towards the constructors’ championship the following season. Alternatively, the race could have a variety of prizes like cash or wind tunnel time

Finally someone admits that Ricciardo was great in the Renult and it wasn't a bad move on his part. His career really fell at McLaren as he struggled to adapt to the car, which I believe tanked his confidence that even a win in Monza couldn't fix. Obviously Norris is a fantastic driver, so it got bad really quickly

I'd love to see Danny Ric in IndyCar, but just fear there aren't too many of the stronger teams with seats available for next year which might mean he'd struggle/not be motivated. (unless McLaren decide they haven't had enough contract disputes for the last 2 years) ... the other option i'd think would be cool is maybe the Aussie Supercar series, they're kinda like nascars to drive and having a huge name like danny ric would be great to see in that series although i think that's less likely unless hes feeling particularly homesick

Hot take: The difference between Stroll and Tsunoda isn't big enough for Aston to drop Stroll (i'm not insane Tsunoda is definitly better, but the gap isn't that large). I reckon Red bull have 3 different drivers compared to the beginning of this year, with Lawson being one of them, I hope they get some exciting rookies. But I definitely predict that Both Riciardo and Tsunoda wont be in F1 in 2025

"I think all the drivers should have let Ricardo get Grand Slams for the rest of the season" - some Ricardo fan probably. Not sure exactly what people expected RB to do for his last race other than fastest lap. Like should they have given team orders to have Yuki finish behind him? Yeah it sucked dropping him midway through the season but letting him flounder for another six races wouldn't have been any better.

I would love the Rookies sprint idea, but I wonder if it would be 10 or 20 cars, and if there would be some caveat to "rookies". Because I rather it be 20 junior formula drivers than a third being Indycar drivers and the other being FE drivers, both without any real chance of getting into F1, and maybe 6 rookies, 5 of which already have their 2025 seat secured.

@@miguelcebriancarrasco1907 yeah, and it would kind of defeat the purpose of the race, wouldn't it? Everybody knows O'ward is a good driver and he'll probably never get a chance at F1. But it could give us some interesting prospects, imagine Valentino Rossi or Palou racing there. But if it is mostly "boring" names (like Dennis or Cassidy who are in FE, sponsored by RedBull but won't get to F1, or Pietro Fittipaldi) who are technically rookies but not really, I don't think it would be great.

Danny has stated in the past that he has no interest in a full time gig in NASCAR as it’s not what he knows. Which frankly he is right. The only driver with a measurable amount of success is JP Montoya and he had a stint in Indy and I would say JP was vastly more talented than Danny at their peaks. The last thing I want for Danny is to become a Danica Patrick level talent whose career is summed up with the term Pay Driver.

I don't disagree that Ricciardo left Red Bull originally because he didn't want to play second fiddle to Verstappen, but let's be honest here; is any one of us turning down a $55 million 2 year contract in the same situation? He went from $6.25mil/yr to $27.5mil/yr. Verstappen's contract in 2019-2020 was only $13mil/yr, so you'd have to assume the contract offered by RB to Ricciardo was around $10mil/yr, certainly a nice pay raise over his previous contract, but Renault made him an offer he couldn't refuse. After that, it was just a game of trying to stay in F1 while still getting paid. I think that huge Renault contract was the beginning of the end for his reduced ambition to take the racing risks he made early in his career. He certainly had some nice drives at Renault, and even a few good ones at McLaren! My favorite Ricciardo moment was actually with McLaren at the 2022 Mexican GP where he called his own shot on Ocon as he blew past him on the front straight. He had an amazing tire strategy that race and was blowing past everyone on softs late to finish 7th. I'm hoping we see Ricciardo in NASCAR or IndyCar, but if he does switch to either of those series, I expect him to be middle of the pack at best.

I know that Verstappen was good and scored more podiums, but Daniel was hampered by terrible luck that season. The man had 8 or 9 dnfs that season (like 7 of them to reliability).
