Daniel Ricciardo's MIAMI GP rollercoaster!

Daniel Ricciardo had both an amazing and terrible saturday at the 2024 Miami GP. After an impressive effort in the 2024 miami sprint race, Daniel Ricciardo was in high spirits in the paddock at the Miami Grand Prix. Although after Daniel Ricciardo's miami sprint race finish, the Australian F1 driver still had the Miami GP qualifying to look to. Daniel Ricciardo's Miami qualifying though did not yield the same results he had in the Miami sprint qualifying and after Daniel Ricciardo's miami penalty he will start the race from thr back of the grid. you say this as if there's precedent. the only time he got knocked out of q1 this year outside miami was for track limit lap time deletion. he is easily into every q2 except this single one because his soft tyres had no grip on the negatively evolving track, just like lando in sq3 doing worse in softs than he did in sq2 with medium

*Daniel said the soft tyres didn't perform well in sprint qualifying while the medium did. He was on soft in the qualifying again. The medium will work well today because they suit his car better on that track.* *That is something he should learn from moving forward >> customizing his car's needs to the track vs going with the norm; which in this case was 99.9% of the drivers driving with soft tyres.* *When his car says no to a particular input but yes to a different input then that's the path he should pursue even if the rest of the drivers have the same setup different from him.*

Hey Kim! Big fan from the states and went to the Miami GP on Saturday. Sat in the T1 grandstands for both events. The heat was relentless that’s why I think everyone cleared out after quali. Being there for both the sprint and quali, by the end of quali we needed to find some cool air. It didn’t take away from any of the excitement, we just spent more time after the events in the campus areas enjoying the drinks and food. Even saw a lot of cigars being sold. It was truly a spectacle.

I think this is exactly what it was meant to be. A literal “sprint” to the line where a good quali from the lower teams can capitalize on for some good points. Also I might be biased since I went to the event but it makes it so much worth it to go on a Saturday with 2 competitive sessions. Was so much fun seeing Magnussen ELBOWS out on turn 11 every time they came by lol.

I disagree to a point. Max is an excellent driver blessed with a car that is superior to others. The issue for those who like F1 but not hard core fans is that Max being so dominant people are starting to lose interest. His performance is much better than Schumacher, Vettel and even Hamilton but F1 survived then and will survive this. I suspect Max will leave RB at the end of 2025, but RB may be at the top of a cliff by then.

@@Emperorvalsebut that’s not how it goes. I mean like it’s facts, he was indeed blessed with a good car but he is a good driver too. And that just literally means he is gonna be dominant and other teams gotta catch up. I mean it would be silly for redbull to decide “oh yes we’re just not gonna make the fastest car and choose the slowest driver cuz the fans want action” Everyone wants to win. So everyone just needs to pull up their bootstraps and catch up. Yea, the FIA could just change the rules and regulations for the cars and that’ll do something to change the field and that’s what’s gonna eventually happen. But we just gotta wait, for the time being we literally have to wait it out and watch the rest of the field. If it’s boring, it’s boring. Everyone says the same thing with every other sport when they realize their favorite team isn’t doing so hot in that season. They start to say it’s “boring” but truly it just means that your team needs to fix something. But to blame max himself for making the sport boring is just super silly when redbull all together has been improving since they started.

Fascinating video yet again. I think the knock on Max’s winning (ignoring the fact that he is the best driver on the grid) is that as soon as as Max starts to break away from the pack, the race is essentially over. All focus then shifts to the mid-field. Max goes on to win by 10, 20, 30 or more seconds. I think the complaint is fans want to see more competitive races. Nothing more.

It was a combination of the low track grip and the Pirelli tyres which caught out Daniel in Q1. All the drivers have complained at some point in the weekend about how bad the soft tyres are performing. Daniel’s lap was quite similar to Lando’s lap from sprint qualifying. They both were absolutely sliding all around the place. Yuki was also caught out by this in sprint qualifying. That being said he has good pace, hopefully he can get into the points.

People act like he's suddenly washed or something. there's no way a driver who made p4 in sprint quali and was able to keep that position ahead of ferrari and mclaren, would drop to p18 simply because of driver performance. he got unlucky with the tyres, even his engineer was confused. otherwise he would've got into q2 easily, and maybe q3

The problem with F1 is that other drivers and teams just need to up their game. Why is Max doing so much sim racing? Not only because he loves it but also because it makes him better. You need that level of commitment or otherwise you're never going to beat Max. The guy raised the bar in F1 driving with a level of consistency and relentlessness never seen before. So you either follow or be gone.

Red Bull got it right when they built a car to the current regulations. Max is the beneficiary of that. It was up to the other teams to catch up which they are now doing. Six races and three different winners. F1 is doing OK.
