Ce documentaire sur ce grand Cavaillé-Coll de St Sulpice, avec Maître Daniel Roth et des pièces de JS Bach puis de ChM Widor, est tout à fait remarquable. Dommage qu'il ne soit pas disponible en français, pour apprécier tout ce que nous dit Daniel Roth sur ces sujets, comme également sur l'apport éminent d'Albert Schweitzer pour raviver et éclairer l'oeuvre du Kantor de Leipzig. Merci, Kis Martus. Peut-être trouverez-vous le moyen d'éditer une version française !

Excellent to have this highly interesting documentary available, impressive how well Daniel speaks German: CHAPEAU! And how interesting to learn about the quintessential role that Gioacchino (not Giacomo) Rossini played in Aristide Cavaillé-Coll´s rise to fame (sadly not to fortune: he overinvested so much in many of his organs at his own expense that he died in relative poverty). Too bad though that from the many hundreds of his masterworks, only a handful of organs appear in this documentary . . . I remain looking forward to a more comprehensive overview of the great master´s contribution to the organ landscape, first of all in France but also in the rest of Europe and even overseas ...

Daniel Roth was bon in Elsass, historically german region of France. Today knowledge of german is not really common there, but still much more than elsewhere in France.

Très intéressant documentaire ! en particulier la jonction faite à St Denis et la relation Widor-Schweitzer pour la compréhension des chorals de Bach en France.

De quelque sorte, Widor n´était pas seulement le professeur de Schweitzer mais (au moins en ce qui concerne la compréhension des chorals de Bach à la base des textes allemands) Schweitzer est par contre devenu le professeur de Widor 😀

I hope someday to go to Paris and see and hear the organ at Notre Dame, and to visit St Sulpice to hear Mr Roth play the beautiful organ in that church. The videos of him playing and demonstrating the organs and his commentaries are so interesting to me. On a funny note, though, when I saw that carousel during the Toccatta I said to myself "Please do not have Mr Roth riding on that thing!" haha

Daniel Roth retired in February 2023 and is now the organist emeritus

The perfect occasion to do so would be the re-opening of Notre-Dame towards end of 2024, 5 years after the fire of 2019: hopefully also the organ (fortunately undamaged by fire and water) will be re-installed by then and resound in all its glory again ... And yes, Daniel Roth is no longer the organiste titulaire at St. Sulpice but his successor Karol Mossakowski is an extremely fine and talented organist: he may not be quite as great an improviser as his predecessor, however as an interpreter (especially of Widor) I believe I even prefer him, e.g. check his rendition of Widor´s entire 5th symphony (not just the famous final Toccata) here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIfVmqCpmN2Mjbs - skip to 52:33 for the beginning of the symphony or to 1:24:27 for the Toccata

Interessant, Pincemaille und Roth noch fast jugendlich aussehend zu erleben. Der / die Grande Arche wurde Sommer '89 fertiggestellt, also könnten die Filmaufnahmen tatsächlich von 1989 sein. Die beiden "Maîtres" haben bis dato nichts von ihrem jugendlichen Spiel eingebüßt - immer noch faszinierend.

Superstarkes Stück auf einer superstarken Orgel, aber zu hektisch gespielt, bin aber trotzen etwas neidisch, da ich es nicht mal langsamer spielen kann😣

Anscheinend hat Widor es selbst niemals so schnell gespielt und das ist auch gut so, besonders auf einer so gigantischen Orgel . . . Leider scheint es den modernen Organisten nur noch darum zu gehen alle Geschwindigkeitsrekorde zu brechen, ohne Rücksicht auf Schönheit und Musik 😞

3sat est un canal de TV allemand et autrichien (partagé): on ne peut pas comparer 3sat avec ARTE (un canal mi-francais, mi-allemand) . . . Malheureusement pour les francais, Daniel Roth parle couramment l´allemand 😞

Jap das dauert so lang, allein der Weg der bis zum Rèci zurückzulegen sind.

Die Verbindung ist teilweise pneumatisch, der Luftdruck muss sich erst aufbauen und das dauert, dazu kommt noch, dass das "Récit expressif" von allen Werken am Weitesten vom Spieltisch entfernt ist, locker 15 Meter, dadurch gibt es zusätzlich noch eine akustische Verzögerung

In St Sulpice macht das nichts - damit kann man den dort geringeren Nachhall etwas kompensieren. Übrigens würde ich das noch unter geduldeter Geschwindigkeitsüberschreitung verbuchen ;-)
