@joandark2 You are getting this all wrong. In typical Christian fashion you are reading the Old Testament through New Testament -tinted glasses. (The New Testament is highly problematic but I won't go into that here) Dr Collins's approach is to read and interpret the text by itself in a way someone at the time would have (long before the erroneous story that Jesus was the Messiah was invented). As he says in the video here: "it needed to have made sense at the time". That approach is the most direct and intellectually honest one. Projecting different meanings into it by shoehorning something else into it (ie Jesus) that happened many centuries later and then to claim it always meant that is deception. I would assume that Dr Collins's academic credentials are superior to yours when it comes to the OT. So why not learn something from him? Have you ever read the Old Testament thoroughly? Do you know what the underlying theology was before the NT was added? (Everything in Old Testament completely contradicts the NT) You have choices here. You can either do your own research (worth it as it constitutes two thirds of your Bible), or you can go to your nearest Church and believe the lies they are teaching. Up to you.

When I said he was captivating that also referred to his skill of creating a context and explaining scripture within that context in a way that very clear and engaging. This was all a comment on how he was presenting, not whether or not I agree with his theological views. The 2 are separate points. Someone who presents a view you agree with might present it badly, someone who presents a view you disagree with might present it well. Not that hard to understand is it?

Whoa Dr Collins is one of the top scholars of the old testament . I'm impressed you got him on the show. Gotta say this, you really need to stop calling your guest by their first names. I notice you catch yourself doing it a lot, then asked what they prefer. Do not ask that. If there is a Dr in front of the name always call them Dr unless they themselves say you can just call them by their first name. You are a gentlemen and a nice guy. Do appreciate you catch yourself but it shouldn't keep happening. Plus to ask them if you can call them by first name puts them in a position where they don't want to seem pretentious and just say yeah its fine. Even though no doubt at least some of them would rather be referred to as doctor ms mr. I know this seems like quibbling but it matters to some academics because they feel they worked hard for their phd and want that sign of respect, especially when they aren't familiar with you. You and Price are pretty much friends so in that case it's perfectly cool.

Im glad I found this, I was raised very fundamentalist and can attest a lot of cherry picking occurs especially in reference to Archeology. A big rebutal to late Daniel vs Babylonian Daniel is that it could not have been accepted so soon, but as I listen it makes sense that the Essenes at Qumran would have latched onto it quickly because they them selves appear to be an apocalyptic sect.

I am stunned that someone teaching at a University like Yale could be factoring in Antiochous Epiphanies into his interpretation of Daniel. A good historical analysis of Daniel will show that Antiochous Epiphanies has absolutely no relevance to any part of the Book of Daniel.And anybody studying it would do well to forget about Antiochous Epiphanies.

So Dr. Collins starts with the presupposition that these could be completely understood when they were written 7:53. But the book of Daniel disagrees and says several times that Daniel himself did not understand: Dan 7:15-16,19 , 8:27, 12:8. The problem is this: If you start with a presupposition that contradicts the text, of course you will find the text to be inauthentic.

Apocalypticism enters Judaism through Persian influence not Greek. Apocalypticism is a feature of Zoroastrianism. Apocalypticism enters Jewish thought when Cyrus the Great and the Persian Empire (who were Zoroastrians) liberated the Hebrews from Babylon and sent them home to Jerusalem with money to rebuild the Temple. After the return from Babylon, suddenly apocalypticism enters Jewish literature for the first time.

If Jesus did not consider himself to be the Son of Man, a big problem arises: who was supposed to rule the Kingdom? Jesus or the Son of Man? If Jesus called himself the messiah (the king of the Jews), and was crucified for it, it means that Jesus thought he would rule the Kingdom. But Daniel's prophecy says that the one who would rule the Kingdom would be the Son of Man. So how could Jesus think of himself and the Son of Man as different people? I believe the answer lies in Dr. Collins' article: "The Kingdom of God in the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha." He argues that the Danielic Kingdom would have two levels: a level on earth where the Jewish people would rule over the nations; and a level in Heaven where Michael would rule over the angelic patrons of foreign nations. The same two-tiered cosmos was already taking place for Daniel: the battle between Israel and foreign nations was also taking place in the supernatural realm among his angelic patrons. This solves the problem: Jesus and the Son of Man would rule in parallel: Jesus as Israel's king on earth, and Michael/Son of Man as Israel's representative in Heaven.

"Son of Man" means any deified person, including Roman Emperors, Enoch, etc. Anyone taken into a divine pantheon who was born human. Hercules might qualify. Tellingly so do Vespasian and Titus, it's language that their cults use. It's pretty clear why Flavian family authors would be the ones whose works are altered to validate Jesus as historical. He was necessary to validate prophecies of Flavians as saviors (from Julio-Claudians).

Difficult to see how Mark 13:22-26 and 14:61-2 is not supposed to be Jesus’ return on the clouds during Caiaphas’ lifetime. Jesus had just claimed to be the Messiah in 14:61-62. He paralleled himself to The Son of Man in Mark 2:10 and 8:38. Would a cloud-riding Savior/Messiah make sense to Christian Jews in 60 CE? They would get the reference to Daniel 7:13-14. According to the BibleGateway.com notes, bar enash in Daniel 7:13 is an Aramaic (colloquial) term meaning Human Being. But the Septaguint uses a word-for-word translation: “son of man”. The NT authors apparently read the Septuagint as their Bible, because all of their interpretations are consistent with it, as opposed to the original Ancient Hebrew and Aramaic. The adventurious Daniel (god is my judge) begins his annual journey in Aries (Ram god - Zeus Ammon). Aries marks the beginning and ending of the religious year or the period from the spring equinox - spring equinox. Gabriel/Abel is another name for the sun in Aries (spring equinox) and his brother Michael/Cain is the sun in Libra (autumn equinox). They are always playing "change seats" throughout the year. The taking of night one (Scorpio) in Genesis one, and adding it to the six days or Aries thru Virgo, changes the story by moving Michael/Cain to the sign of the accursed constellation Scorpio, the terrible leader of the five months/signs that can harm man. Regardless of which calendar you use, the end times or end of the world is the last few days before the beginning of a new year. The Ouroboros, (Ourorboros, Oroborus, Uroboros or Uroborus) is an ancient serpent or dragon swallowing its own tail and forming a circle. The ouroboros has been important in religious and mythological symbolism, but has also been frequently used in alchemical illustrations. Note the sun is mentioned twice in this word.

Late to this party but can’t help but chime in. Daniel 9 isn’t that hard to understand. The 70 count happened twice because we just didn’t get it. Never mind both the rabbis and the Christians cause neither of them want to admit the truth. It’s about Jerusalem and not the temple so you can automatically forget that Jewish interpretation. And he’s right about the Christians pulling all these stunts to make it work. But I’ll break it down to you real simply. First decree was the the one in 457 and basically the 69 weeks ended about the time Jesus started teaching. He gets cut off half way into the 70th. The people of the prince who is to come are the Christians and Christianity is the Abomination that’s been causing this desolation. The 70 week count started again when the Ottomans also made a decree to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem just as the prophecy says. 62 weeks later Jerusalem had just been recaptured and for the first time reunited with a nation called Israel. 7 weeks later Jerusalem was recognized and there was a astrological alignment described in Rev 12 called sign if the Virgin. So technically we’re in the last 7 weeks and right on cue the shit has hit the fan worldwide. Really, it’s not that hard to read Daniel and it’s seems pretty shoddy work of interpretation when a child can come along and just unlock that one with ease. They’ve been fighting over this one and a few others that are just as easy to sort out. Like little children claiming dibs on scriptures.

The people of Israel were holy because of the substitution sacrifice performed by the 'holy' Priesthood 'Set Apart' by Moses and only those who were descended from Aaron were priests. The vision of Christ appearing before the Throne of The Father, is spoken of by Jesus Himself after His crucification and ascension.

Daniel Chap. vii. "In the first year of Belshazzar, Daniel saw a dream in the night" (winter). Belshazzar was, as we have seen, the winter Sun, winter being the night of the year, when Daniel (Aries) comes to his meridian. The four winds answer to the four cardinal points, as also the li four great beasts," or the cherubim. The time being about the winter solstice, when the Lion would be seen to rise in the evening, as the Sun sets in Aquarius. This lion-like beast, or Man-lion, had eagle's wings, and may be seen pictured in Bonomi's Nineveh, p. 251, and in other books. Daniel looked at this beast (Leo) until the Eagle's wings were plucked, i.e., until the Eagle rose, and " was lifted up from the earth; when, lo, a second beast (Scorpio), like to a Bear (Ursa major; on the meridian in April, and hence the comparison), raised itself on one side," i.e., on the south side of the equator, where Scorpio rises as a paranatellon of the Eagle. The three ribs constitute its symbol, or sign shown by three downward strokes, connected at the top like the letter m. The devouring of much flesh is characteristic of winter, which begins when the Sun enters Scorpio. The third "great beast," which Daniel thought, or imagined, he saw, was like a leopard, or better, tiger, since the root of the original word means to stripe. In this little horn, answering to the man's head of the almanac, "were eyes like the eyes of a man." Of course; besides, the east was always the horoscope of the astrologists. It also, i.e., this little horn, for it was a very curious little horn, had a mouth speaking great things. I shouldn't wonder if it was the spring, which usually promises a crop, - the same as the renewed covenant and promise of the Lord to Abraham (Gen. xvii, 2).

Tip. I work in advertising. So I'm gonna suggest. You have agreat intro.. we get it ..the voice talent rolls out the words. Let your voice talent do this heavy lifting , but as the host , you don't need to do that, and it sounds amateur to try to sound like the voice talent. It also slows down the pace, and it annoyed me. You worked too hard to make a mistake of annoying , the first 5 seconds of your show . Here's 2 INTRO Examples . Main stream media news hosts just move forward with their story ..they dont make a big deal about the shows "name".. It kills the power of the branding effort if you repeat it. Let the dramatic intro, stand "alone".. as a mysterious personality that is your heroic character who is stating this is an important show. Consider you are a seperate" character ", your the leader.. in this production. Another example , johny Carson had a famous introduction by ed mcmann, "Herrrre's Johnny"!!! ... it was the shows brand, that needs no repetition by johnny . I respect your shows quality , so I'm trying to help you gain perspective of your place within the brand. I look forward to watching this show about the son of man .I've been researching this for years..wishing there were more experts talking about it
