This is what I picture when I think “wedding”; two lives coming together, two families being interwoven and connected. The simplicity and modesty, the love that you feel is what makes it the most joyous occasion. Her cape just added a lovely dimension of artistry to her dress in my opinion, modesty is beautiful. My fiancé and I are having a very simple wedding with family on their land, this is how I think it should be. Prayers and blessing on this beautiful couple and their family.

Beautiful, sacred, and God honoring. So much of our world today is missing out on God glorifying weddings. Amish, Mennonite, German Baptist weddings are simple, yes. The "extravagance" is in the vows and in the married life where a man and a woman come together and commit their lives to each other for LIFE! Each one faithfully fulfilling their God given roles as husband and wife. That is truly something to celebrate. God surely smiles with loving approval as He watches these weddings and faithful marriages.

Lovely wedding! May I ask the significance of the head coverings on the ladies? I noticed some ladies did not have any, some had lace type ones, and some had bonnets. Is it personal choice which they wear, or if they wear them? Or do they symbolize different things?
@nrgnovator24274 жыл бұрын
Hello Malauney: I’m answering your questions as a person with lifelong familiarity and heritage associated with the custom of head coverings for ladies (and also for little girls). The custom of ladies' head coverings originates from teaching found in I Corinthians chapter 11, verses 2-16 in the Christian Bible. The various styles and shapes of the coverings reflect the teachings and practices of each individual congregation and church conference with whom these ladies affiliate. Also, since many congregations allow some variances in the types of head coverings worn by their ladies, the variety of styles and shapes also may reflect the individual preferences of each lady. FYI, I come from an Anabaptist hearitage, and have numerous female relatives whose heads I have never seen uncovered. (Only their husbands have seen them without their head coverings.) But when awake, they always wear some kind of covering, even a scarf or bonnet, depending upon the weather and situation. The practice of Christian women worshiping with their heads covered (or “veiled”) was universal in the early Christian church. Martin Luther the Protestant Reformer encouraged wives to worship with their heads veiled. John Calvin (Reformed Church founder), John Knox (Presbyterian Church founder) and John Wesley (Methodist Church founder) all strongly encouraged women (especially married women) to worship with veiled heads. Up to the 18th Century, the custom of Christian women worshiping with covered heads was still basically universal. Only since the early 20th Century has the custom been abandoned in most groups. The main exceptions today that still uphold this custom would be the following: - many Eastern Catholic and Orthodox churches, and Catholic Churches in general, especially those in Latin America - many Apostolic Christian churches - Anabaptist groups, such as Hutterites, Amish and more conservative Mennonite churches - many German Baptist churches - many conservative Pentecostal churches - churches in many foreign countries and cultures that generally encourage womens’ modesty - some Conservative Quaker groups For reference, look up the topic “Christian head covering” on Wikipedia. You can also just search using those keywords on any Search engine….. I hope this helps!
@salyluz65353 жыл бұрын
The bride and maid of honor were members of the Old Brethren Church, so they are wearing our church pattern. The next two bridesmaids are Mennonites so they have a different pattern. But all plain Anabaptist women cover their heads for the same reason, based on the New Testament book 1st Corinthians, chapter 11. Those without a head covering were not from any if the several Plain Anabaptist churches, but friends and relatives from other faiths, or of no faith.

The modesty, simplicity of this ceremony and the sincerity exuded by this couple was such a blessing to witness! Lovely, lovely, lovely!
@ReaganSchrock3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, there are different cultural expressions around the ladies’ head coverings, which depends mostly on which type of Mennonite/Anabaptist church they are a part of. The one without the covering is not Mennonite. Hope that makes sense!

These must be contemporary Mennonites, the Old Order Amish I have for neighbors .. around 250 farms .. are vastly more conservative than this. They rarely even show dark blue much less pastel colors and the women never totally expose their hair and would never adorn themselves with anything even close to a lapel flower.
@hannahlamppin74774 жыл бұрын
The Mennonites and Amish are different from each other. They are not one and the same. Mennonites may live alongside the rest of society whereas the Amish tend to live clustered together. Overall, the Mennonites are not as strict as the Amish, however, I am beginning to question that as I have seen and talked with more than one Amish teenager whose Elders allowed them to have cell phones.
@Sofi_CraftsandMore354 жыл бұрын
Hannah Lamppin TEENS with cell phones are most likely on a rumspringa - where they are allowed to experience the modern world (cell phones, cars, modern clothes) usually for a bout a year or so.
@dianegherman97854 жыл бұрын
I would guess Anabaptist.
@salyluz65353 жыл бұрын
@Diane Gherman: Amish, Mennonites and the Old Brethren in this video are all Anabaptists; but there are no Amish in this video. Many Amish do now have phones- but each local church decides independently where they will draw their lines. Acceptance of technology has always happened, just selectively and at a much slower pace than the general population. They like to wait and see what the pros and cons of a technology will be, if it strengthens family and community relationships, or if it is a hindrance, distraction or a stumbling block. The members of an Amish church (members means this is NOT referring to unbaptized teenagers) who I know that have cell phones, have low tech versions, similar to what very conservative Orthodox Jews have. These cell phones are allowed for business (most Amish are self employed, or work for a friend or relative’s business) and also to make medical appointments, inform relatives of births and deaths, in case of emergency, etc. But these phones do not access the internet, and many of them cannot take pictures. Face to face communication is still preferred if possible, as it builds up relationships in a family setting. Also remember that not all Amish are Old Order Amish, and there are 25+ types of just Old Order Amish. Many New Order and Beachy Amish allow cell phones, but those who have internet may use a filter program or choose other protective/safeguard features. There are many Old Order Amish groups which do not allow cell phones, but they do allow a landline phone to be installed at their business, or in the workshop or the barn, or allow a local phone shack shared between neighbors, accessible in case of emergency, to arrange appointments and rides, etc. So each group is different. Amish live in 32 states, 4 Canadian provinces, Central and South America, while Mennonites and Brethren are all over the world; so there’s a very wide diversity of practices.
