Soooo many idiots commenting who clearly don't understand the point of a DRILL: it's to PRACTICE isolated techniques in order to learn motor patterns, NOT to simulate a fight. A speed bag and a heavy bag are not going to "work" in a fight either, but boxers use them all the time to isolate and condition.

I know I'm going to regret this ... but you guys are killing me! No one fights like this! This is an exercise! No one is expected to do 2-3 blocks (destructions) like this in a fight. It's an exercise. In a fight, the object is ALWAYS to hit the dude! BUT believe it or not, there are guys out there who you simply cannot hit due to fantastic head movement and such. The problem is - you learn that you can't hit him ... as you're trying to hit him. LOL By then, it's too late! He's bashed your face 3 or 4 times by then. LOL This technique simply gives you A tool. (The idea comes from the movement of a knife. You'd cut his hands and arms) This is just ONE tool that you can use to get the hell out of there. Again, it's an exercise ... just like Shadow Boxing to develop continuity and footwork (you don't say: He's not even hitting anybody). Just like hitting a Heavy Bag to develop power (you don't say: No one's gonna just stand that and let you hit them) Just like hitting a Speed Bag to develop speed (you don't say: No one's gonna just let you hit them 20-30 times like that) Just like working Focus Mitts to develop target acquisition (you don't say: No one's head is that small) LOL. Jesus guys! I mean, when you see a Quarter back and a Receiver running routes, do you complain because there's not a ref on the field, as it is in a real game? This is an exercise. No one is expecting you to fight like this. This is simply an exercise to develop accuracy and speed just in case, you can't hit the guy in the face or the body ... and you need to slow him the f'ck down so you can get out of there. Geez!

*I agree.* My only issue is the guy at 2:20 is throwing slappy hooks and overhands; he needs to tighten his technique.

motorola59 I know right? The fact that you even need to say this to people just shows the level that they operate on. Daniel Sullivan is amazing, these are simply drills for skills and let me tell you… He’s got him and he knows how to get other instructors to teach their students correctly. This is an amazing DVD set

***** no i havent and for good reason. lets say you run into a real boxer, someone whos been training for years. how do you think these blocking techniques would hold up? they wouldnt not at all. real punches come in way to fast and way to compactly to even attempt to block them in this way. this guy is teaching fake fighting techniques to people and making money off of it and that kinda upsets me. some people are really gonna take what he says seriously and end up getting hurt when they really think they know how to fight. i feel like hes shitting on boxings name and giving it a bad wrap. sorry if i seem upset not trying to argue or anything just a sensitive topic for me

+Anthony Hunter That is Kali Panantukan, It is an effective method, and it was used in the real war, They were probably new students, but with training, you could use that against real boxers. I garantee you that, I ve done many sparring sections with boxers using those dirty tricks, And i used kali in many street fights also. Dont say anything before you can really train it, That was just 1% of the whole thing and Thats it. Mabuhai.

davi lopes souza i simply refuse to believe that you could knock away my jab with one hand much less a right straight. if veteran boxers (who are trained to avoid punches) have trouble slipping a jab thrown from the elbow i know for a fact no one is going to simply knock it away. no one reacts that fast, i dont care how much you've trained.

Anthony Hunter For one this is just a drill and two, why the hell do these blocks not work? I've seen this stuff used in fights (like in kickboxing) and these techniques are recommended by Jack Dempsey in his book on boxing, are you telling me that Jack Dempsey (one of the greatest boxers of all time) doesn't know how to box?

Thank you for your honesty. This is total crap. Not to mention the psychological momentum that is gained by the attacker throwing 3 strikes with your 1 strike response. I've always utilized, if you strike me 3 times, I'm blitzing you with 7 shots as a response. I'll get a few in and physically, if not possibility cause the other fighter to get in his heels or withdraw.

obviously this is just a training to enhance your Parry/ Blocking reflexes.... In a real boxing match it would be One Parry and then Counter attack...One Block and then Counter attack... Manny PAcquiao uses this Effectively...Look at him Block and Parry at Pacquiao VS Hatton at Round 1 at 2:29 minutes...

there's a reason.......this would require Mayweather like timing, not Jimmy the White Guy who's not all that athletic (I'm white, mostly). This is an Aikido demonstration, watch Marvin Cook, he's legit from the same stable.

Korawit S. It's based on Filipino Martial Arts and the angles he is talking about are tried and true weapon techniques which he is applying to Street fighting for better or worse. Although Karate surely uses much of the same stuff.

With all the respect as a martial artist training in dirty boxing, this will never work. Try some bare nuckle boxing at 60% WITH YOUR DEFENCE CROSSED OVER. When punches are landing on your body, you don't have time to defend. And that is simply because human reaction is slower than your opponent's tricky attack. I always train my students with a simple but rock solid foundation of defence. Then you move on to counter attack. Greetings from Greece.

if someone ever comes at me at a glacial pace i'll have the perfect defense. that way i don't ever have to move my feet and can just stand in one spot for the rest of my life and be happy. i want to be used as a sun dial. And a punching bag.....but, i'll block any punch ever, all the time.
