Why do most people think that when someone does a cover of a song means they're trying to be better than the original? Everyone has a reason for doing a cover. Maybe they love singing but doesn't have a passion in writing songs that's why they can only do covers. Another reason would be that they love the song and wanted to do their own version or simply do a cover of it. Please don't assume something negative so easily. Think of what the singer might feel. It might actually be very insulting.

I know a very good singer/songwriter who writes beautiful original songs, but also does covers not to try and improve on them, but because they love the song and enjoy singing them, or because they are interested in seeing how it sounds done in a slightly (or sometimes very) different way. And I suspect all but the most egotistical of singers will tell you they know their cover is not as good as the original (even when it is as good or better!)

Very impressive. I love the original and almost anything by Lana, but this has transformed to song into something wholly different, recognizable but more ethereal, and the voices are perfect for that. I wish Daniela would do more original work. She deserves to be much better known. Canada produces so may great musicians, from Leonard Cohen to Joni Mitchell - perhaps Daniela will be the next.
