They are great singers but the lyrics are what makes this deep and sad. Think about it,..if they were humming it,...you would think it was a happy song. Original song is not sang in a pretty voice and you can't even clearly understand the lyrics. If Bruce had a great singing voice and slowed it down a tad, played an acoustic guitar with no other accompanied instruments, it would have the same effect. Its the lyrics, it is a well written song.

However, given our scared, insecure lives, this is often easier said than done. Sometimes, we wish we'd meet a stranger who'd be able to both lead and follow, fleeting as that may be. Dude writing the song is just putting himself out there, in the most defiantly innocent way possible. Bruce 'the Boss' Springsteen.

@@celestineernest1087 There is absolutely a sexual/ erotic connotation, but coupled with the music and the way it's sung, it also touches upon loneliness and longing in a more profound sense. It's what makes Springsteen so special: writing a fun, mischievous song with so much darkness simmering under the surface, yet having it be so relatable and immediately likable.
