When using a torque wrench and barrel nut wrench in that configuration your barrel nut wrench should be at a 90 degree angle.

regurgitating what you've seen on the internet, prob. How many barrel nuts have you torqued down to come to this conclusion? It truly makes almost no difference if using a quality wrench.

@Bon Jovi plot twist...I am a trained armorer. Lol. Never in my entire life have I stripped an upper receiver or barrel nut. What??? The torque values are so wide for AR barrel nuts that you almost don’t even need a torque wrench. Plus/minus 10 ft-lb is no big deal for a barrel nut. For barrel nuts that need indexing, it’s really a matter of indexing it at a point within the torque specs and properly lined up. For this I typically err on the higher end of the torque values. One need not worry so much about the angle of the torque wrench for this application, but internet ninjas sure jump all over people that don’t do it perfectly.

@Bon Jovi I agree with most points, however a "chamer rod", like a Geissele Reaction Rod is my preffered method for barrel nut installation. Clam shell blocks would cause a twisting force to be applied to the threads and also the receiver itself, whereas with a rod it is focused straight into the barrel with less twisting force. You just need to make sure it's seated properly and secured so you don't mar the lugs of the barrel.

@2:18 You are using the torque wrench incorrectly. Adding length to the wrench will increase the torque value indicated on the torque wrench. The torque wrench should be 90° with the barrel nut wrench. That 55 ft lbs of torque was likely closer to 62-70 ft lbs with that length.

I'm trying to figure out at which step does the loose bolt-up plate become tightened? I mean, those 6 allen screws fix the rail to the bolt-up plate and it all becomes one solid piece, but what's holding the whole assembly fixed to the upper receiver?

Hey, Daniel defense I recently purchased a Riz three upper from your online store, 14.5 inch I really do like it and feel like it is quality however, on close inspection I found that my pin for my gas block is not protruding on the other side, what should I do? It also appears that the pin has snapped or is not rounded at the end but is more jagged. It has not been fired by me.

I just called support and reported that my handgaurd and my upper receiver Picatinny did not perfectly align on my brand new rifle. And expressed my concern that is not properly aligned it would affect the iron sights. Support guy said it will not effect the iron sights. Then go on this video and the person says make sure they are perfectly aligned or will effect your iron sights. Not sure if the support guy lied or is just ignorant. But does not instill confidence in their support or brand. Now I have service my new rifle. It’s so poorly aligned you can even slide a Picatinny attachment between the handgaurd and the upper receiver.

Use an optic/mount to bridge the hand guard and upper while you get the screws started, once “finger tight” take off whatever you used to bridge it and torque down properly.

No disrespect but you might want to show this video to your in-house technicians my handguard from factory was way off and could not achieve co-witness without cranking windage all the way to side, Handguard had to be reinstalled.

It would really be nice if y’all would give the spec of the socket cap screws are used, other than just the length. Would surely suck to pay upwards of $400 for a rail, strip a screw (or lose one), and have to spend another $20 buying a “bolt up kit” directly from DD instead of just getting 1 socket cap screw from McMaster. What a subtle money grab DD, good on ya. Edit: I’m going to update this post with the exact size of the hardware for other people who are searching. Stick it to the man. I love the RIS II but it’s so obvious what y’all are doing by not providing exact hardware spec. Time to break out my thread gauges, calipers, and my McMaster catalog!
