I do not agree with what I am about to say... But to play devils advocate here; I can think of a single valid point; assuming they have read it. Pacing. So Basically every classic novel you can name for famous epic fantasy; inevitably has better pacing and less drag and fluff. After all they are books not undefined lengths of media like anime or LN or Manga. That means an end is easier to work for because it ends when you want it. Not 50+ chapters later. I do disagree, but can give them a pass on that excuse. I mean some arcs are trash pacing in manga some others in anime. I really cannot think of another.

Egg head is the best set up arc but I doubt the next arc is any different. Yes I think that Elbaph will end up being more set up and until that last actual conflict there will only be set up arcs. concluding some stuff but being more about what happens next.

@@wiikoolaid9768 idk man. He seems like he always has to throw out weird theories that are way to overcomplicated, just so he can swim against the stream. He was clinging to his "the raid will fail" waaay too long, almost until gear 5. Like, come on. Why would we continue wano after 4 years even tho the classic 3 act structure was laid out from the beginning.
@XDEnd00

@@JugglelixHe did, but it was one thing. Ironically, seems like everybody else clings on this fact while ignoring that the dude got major predictions right on the money while no one was betting on it, such as that Wano was going to center around Conquerors Haki in the end, that Big Mom would go to Wano and Elbaf would be Shanks' arc and not hers, and others that weren't as opposed but still got precisely right such as Zoro getting Conquerors in Wano. Dude has the best literary analysis of OP on youtube by far (and when his theories are centered around themes is where he tends to hit the mark the most by far) but people just focus on one single theory he had. Where I do think he falls flat is when he goes too hard headed on power scaling though

@@Jugglelix I was a big time believer about the raid failing since I agreed with all his points about why it probably would. The biggest one being about how there wasn't much tension to what was going on. Especially with the Kaido fight. Kaido throws Luffy into the ocean and then gets rescued by the heart pirates right after with Momo assuring everyone that Luffy's okay. Then the second time his heart literally stops beating but it's cool though because his DF awakened instantly after and then the fight just continues. Drag Luffy’s ‘death’ out even one chapter and it would’ve helped a lot and made it a lot more climactic when he made his comeback. But yeah besides that I agree that as time went on the likelihood of Oda starting everything all over again wasn't gonna happen. Morj admitted he was just gonna stick to his guns though and everyone just kept spreading it for the memes.

Egghead surely gives off The Gathering Storm vibes. I don't know if you've seen my comment years ago, but I read The Wheel Of Time when you recommended it on one of your OP videos (that time when someone said OP is the WOT of manga or something). I used to like him way more a few years ago. I feel he got trapped in the one piece KZbinrs dilemma, where they have to create a lot of content to feed the algorithm. I'm not a fan of the amount of theory videos being made and almost 90% of them are always wrong by miles. Currently, my favorite story analyst is Melontee. She really gets one piece and always provide very deep analysis, things that most content creators doesn't touch, and she also avoids theory crafting a lot, which is a plus for me.

I can't believe that One Piece has been going on for 24 or 25 years now. Dam. It's going to be extremely bittersweet when the series finally reaches its epic conclusion, hugely excited to see how it all ends but will also be very sad when it does end. Either way I've absolutely loved the entire journey that I've been on with One Piece, one of the greatest Manga & Anime ever! Also excited for One Piece Netflix Season #2✌️ PS, just my personal opinion but I much prefer the original version of Daniel's music that plays at the end of each video. This new Electric Guitar version doesn't sound as good as the original.

I've realized that Malazan and One Piece have many parallels and scratch the same itch for me because they both have hundreds of deep and realistic characters that capture your heart, world-building that goes harder than a warthog in a lion den, epic storytelling that touches on multiple deep and important themes to explore the human condition, and an overall message of hope and compassion. One Piece is, and will be remembered as, one of the greatest achievements of human storytelling. anyone who wants to deny that IMO hasn't truly engaged with the material in an honest way. I used to think One Piece was a silly pirate show. That was four years ago. then I started watching, then reading, and now I'm here with everyone else, on the cruise.

I love when you rant. I remember a live stream a while ago of you ranting about Grimdark Fantasy fans and it was really insightful lol. The Koby idea makes a lot of sense. The confrontation with Aokiji and Garp kind of spells this out. Aokiji is the former student of Garp that betrayed Garp and the Navy while Koby is the new student that Garp has all the hope in the world for. But when we look at Garp’s former students - Ace, Luffy, and Sabo, all of them ended up doing the opposite. It seems like Koby could be the final straw OR it could be that Koby makes a drastic flip based on “the truth of the world” and becomes the type of person he was afraid of, like Akainu. Luffy is the complicated truth while Koby is the grounded truth. Breaking order and being selfish is who Luffy is, but he is also a good person that does good things. We always assume Luffy is going to change in the final act, but he is for the most part a static character. He has always known what hes wanted and has a reactionary idealistic feel for what the world could be - where everyone is accepted, treated fairly, has access to basic rights, etc. His vision is the end of the story and we will see that world actualized at the end of the series. He can’t change. BUT the characters around him are changing and will still put up walls to block his path. A few characters can change to become the antithesis to Luffy by the end of the series and that would draw out the most tension or drama. It makes a lot of sense. In terms of the One Piece, Oden says at the end of his flashback that all of the answers will be found at Laugh Tale. That tells me there could be one thing that can answer everything. Could it be a song? A comic book? Booze? A button that changes everything? A highly advanced machine? A magical source? A bubble that contains memories? Pandaman? I don’t know.

It's fun when you get into the longer term planning and reread Skypeia where people first started theorizing there'd be a great flood cause... You can see the sea level rose when you compare Cricket's bisected home in the flashback and now. It's the level of scope and planning that slowly drives you madder with how many details were clearly thought out in advance and how much the world is a living breathing thing with hundreds of these easy to miss connections that it definitely is up there with all the greats of fantasy world building.

Ambience-wise, it kinda reminds me of when I read Beserk’s Golden Age for the first time: with the main character going through a lot of suffering yet somehow obtaining a form of their goal by the end of the book; with me as the reader hoping that the characters are able to hold onto that happiness while dreading the ‘eclipse’ that will surely take it all away.

I think the issue is people don't know how to discuss media or how media discussion works. It's this cognitive dissonance where subconsciously they understand the difference between deep fleshed out more and actually quality storytelling but consciously they still conflate the two. So when you say one piece's world building can be more complex than storm light archive, they hear it as "one piece is better than stormlight archive"

He wasn't entirely wrong, because American cartoons while sometimes distrubing were in fact meant for kids as mindless entertainment, meanwhile American comics were also aimed either for kids or for niche nerdy adults with the purpose of them being cool in all the nerdy ways, rather than being actually good stories, which there were some, but very few, compared to the mass of comics that just dished out simple stories of heroes beating villains.

Regarding your opening comments. There is a lot of Tribalism on social media when it comes to "The Big Three" that originally broke into the mainstream. (Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece) Where it's become basically impossible to not come across a hater if you say something positive about one of these series. Then these same haters turn around and push their favorite series to an annoying degree, making normal people think the fans are just crazy, and a series is overhyped. The dumbest part of it all is that The Big Three were made by friends, with nothing but the deepest admiration and respect for one another's work... SMH

Wanna know more info about how One Piece might end? Watch Children of the Sun. A TV series that was released in Japan during Oda's formative childhood years. It has signs of being a VERY clear inspiration to One Piece. Shanks? Imu? Blackbeard? Dragon? Aliens? The Merry and Sunny Go ships (possibly Pluton as well)? Ancient Kingdom that was advanced and has treasure that was locked away? A lone girl who can read that kingdom's lost writing and clues? Snake motifs for an Amazonian episode? Four locations to draw an X from to locate the 'hidden island'? It even has a version of the One Piece revealed as the power of the sun itself. All there. Not one-to-onecopies, but clearly, inspirations for *several* tropes in One Piece. Do not be fooled by its real world setting. It's adventurous tone is basically the same as One Piece.

Regarding the ending, here is my logic. Luffy wants to be Pirate King to fulfill his dream -> Luffys dream is to inspire the whole world to go on an adventure to chase there own dreams -> Luffy will acomplish this by making himself a martyr -> Once the dust settles, he will turn himself over to Colby the new face of the Government -> He will then be excuted probablly cruxification with a final call to action and a smile on his face.

Nah you actually have a point about the Den-Den Mushi, they work telepathically so there could definitely be a power that like synchronizes them.

I think there are two things at Laugh Tale, one that was there before Roger got there but wasn't yet usable for some reason, and then the 'One Piece' which is what Roger left. I assume what Roger left is his Haki the same way it was established joy boy could leave his behind. No idea what the other important thing at Laugh Tale is going to be though.

Always interesting to hear your thoughts on One Piece! Not sure if you watch the anime at all, but if you don’t I HIGHLY recommend watching the special episode “One Piece Fan Letter”! Honestly one of the best episodes in the entire series imo

I agree that Colby will play a big role at the end or close to it. I'm not sure how he can stand up to Luffy realistically but I think his main purpose is to redeem the Marines as a force of justice.

From the outside looking it's impossible to comprehend how big the world of One Piece is. They will say things like "1100 chapters and they still haven't found the One Piece." as if that is bad in and of itself because they are used to stories like Dragon Ball where the title is largely vestigial because they find the Dragon Balls in the first major story arc and then the story just keeps going. Having to repeatedly expand the world because every major threat needs to be greater than the last. The world, the galaxy, the universe, the timeline, the multiverse. They assume, I think understandably, that One Piece must simply be spinning its wheels if they haven't circumnavigated the globe and found the legendary treasure yet. It's incomprehensible particularly if you've got memories of the 4Kids dub or instead of reading just gave the 2 episode test or 3 episode test to the anime (which doesn't cover chapter 1 until episode 4.) and conclude that it hasn't hooked you yet, hasn't made you cry yet, and hasn't shown off the supposedly legendary worldbuilding yet so fans must be exaggerating. It just looks silly and the first few episodes align with that impression. Before I got into One Piece I thought it looked stupid and the things fans told me lacked the context for me to appreciate them. I didn't appreciate the world building at all until Baratie, didn't realize Oda would keep old characters consistently and realistically moving in the background until Loguetown, didn't realize how creative the world was until the Grand Line, didn't comprehend how deep the story arcs could get until Alabasta, wasn't blown away by the scale of the politics across the wider world until Jaya, didn't grasp how important the history of the world was until Skypiea, and even then I only began to understand the scope of what is arguably the actual main plot with Robin's backstory which is chapter 391-398! Longer than the entirety of every other manga I've read that didn't overstay its welcome. The depth of everything in the story requires extensive setup, Oda's greatest strength as a writer, long term setup and payoff cannot be experienced in a short span of time, there is no quick and easy introduction to One Piece. The commitment it asks for from the reader is actually insane, so of course people who haven't even read the first 100 chapters are going to think it's a shallow story compared to what fans describe. That and as Daniel experienced first hand, One Piece fans are loud, tons of us only gave the series a chance because someone in our life 'bullied' us into reading/watching it despite it not seeming like the kind of story we'd like from the outside and we are so grateful that now we will bully everyone else into reading/watching it, which is, I think understandably, annoying. I'm sure there is some prejudice from fantasy novel readers against One Piece simply because it is a manga but I also think that is not the main issue as we've seen so much of One Piece's growth be from that community because they are the audience most likely to be patient enough to read the full first 100 chapters in order to begin to understand the appeal. tldr; One Piece is long and a slow burn and fans of the series are loud. The prejudice against it has more to do with those factors than simply not respecting manga as a medium.

0:54 it's usually people who never watched One piece or watched a few dozen episodes and found it boring. I think One Piece is great from the beginning, but you don't really get the scope of how massive and lore heavy that world is until you watch past Enis lobby and Summit War Saga.

Yeah, while the 5 Elders aren't outright called gods by the in universe characters, being named after the planets in our solar system (and being called the Elder Planets), pretty clearly aligns them to be thematically considered gods, given the names of the planets in our solar system are based on Roman gods. I agree with everything you said in the video, I just wanted to add that detail since it wasn't one of the reasons you outlined for them being thematically positioned as gods.

People who have never read any One Piece say it's overhyped. Idk if they realize they all say the same thing. They don't have anything else to say because they dont know anything about it other than the art style. Its just anime/manga people who see everyone excited about One Piece and feel left out and have this weird lashing out. There are probably lit people who never read OP who take issue with the statement too, but "overhyped" is the call of the 'guy who watches anime all the time but not One Piece because it's too long, and feels the need to publicly rationalize that decision, even though nobody cares'

I believe that because we've been told that gear 2 lowers Luffy's lifespan which means he like Roger is going to die early and I think like Luffy mirrors Roger I think he's going to turn himself in and give the credit to Coby and Smoker the marines who most mirror Garp and Garp's relationship with Roger and if the final war arc happens at the end where everyone Luffy loves and everyone who loves him back or respects him (aside from Coby and Smoker) are going to go try to save him aside from the Strawhats and I think this'll tie in with Luffy's true dream I think while all these people are fighting the new marines under people like Coby, Smoker, Tashigi, and the war criminal Fujitora who I'd consider to be the good main marines that aren't just another face in the crowd but still have a good sense of justice (if Garp survives him too and you can debate about Helmeppo I think he will but I think he's less likely than the others) but wh I think will basically just be another face in the crowd during Luffy's execution the Strawhats of course they don't want Luffy to die but I think they'll understand why he did it mirroring Roger's crew and I think that they will be watching the execution with them crying for an emotional very hard hitting moment before Luffy sets off a new great pirate era and then we see they're heartbreaking frowns turn into goofy grins with tears still in they're eyes they'll laugh and as Coby sees the Strawhats these people he cares about and respects laughing with tears in theyre eyesas him, Smoker and Tashigi know them on a more personal level than most people and will see them and as he sees them laugh and sees Luffy laughing he'll start to tear up but will suck it up so the people who don't truly know either Coby or the Strawhats won't think he's crying over a pirate now there in windmill village where Luffy was born and will be executed and once it's done Coby will call for a salute and the people who have some respect for the Strawhats will do it no problem saluting Luffy who liberates everyone they salute Luffy whereas the rest will salute because the piratk is desdas the Strawhats disperse to help the next future pirate King or alternatively we could get this epic panel like the famous Enies Lobby panel where they're technically part of the war but they just stand there and don't fight

Let me tell you and everybody else something about Japanese humor. They LOVE potty humor. Throughout the series there has always been poop imagery, the "Poop island" that Usopp lied about it that turned out to be true, Luffy is always asking people if they poop, and so on. Let's go to other media: - Japan has a CHILDREN's anime called "Oshiri Tantei" (lit. Butt Detective) and his attack is to spit a huge wave of diarrhea - Breath of the Wild has the Korok Seeds you can collect and after you get all 999 you get a GOLDEN POOP that does absolutely nothing. - Tokyo has a giant golden poop ornament. - Japan has a poop museum. Obviously the "One Piece" won't be something like a giant flush to drain that water since that makes no sense, but it's something so stupid and make the entirity of Roger's crew laugh.
