Taking one last look at the house I grew up in before it is remodeled and inhabited by the new owner.

Daniel, I can hear the sadness in your voice and I understand it 100%. There is something final and sad about not being able to access the source of all those memories, and to lose that connection to the place that was such a big part of your life. It''s like losing a part of what made you who you are. I get it. The good thing is that you get to take all the memories with you. Your videos are great and I look forward to seeing many, many more.

got to see my old farm i grew up on a few years ago. i'd lived there for the first 30 or so years of my life. the new owners had completely renovated the house, it was almost brand new, and they showed me around again. it brought back so many memories

My folks had the house built where I grew up in the Chicago suburbs. I moved out in 1982, they sold the house and moved in 1986 (25 years after it was built). In the late 1990's I drove past and there was someone in the yard. I stopped my car and called to them out the window 'My parents built this house.' They asked if I'd like to come in and have a look around. I got to go into my old bedroom and every place else. I showed them where my brother had chipped the bathroom ceramic tile with the tip of his BB gun in 1963 and glued the chip in with a drop of Elmer's glue; the chip was still holding. All through the house I was able to point out things that were tied to my family's history. Our cars' old license plates were still on the garage loft, and a jigsaw puzzle of Keith Magnuson was still on the wall in the little entryway to the garage. It was really cool being able to go through the place where I had lived for 20+ years as a kid.

My home built in 2004 had no overhead lights in the bedrooms. I added them through the attic. I lived in the same home for 35 years; the last 15 it was mine as I inherited it from my late parents. I remodeled it and landscaped the backyard. I wish I never sold it for my new home that did not have bedroom lights. Every now and then when I'm in my old neighborhood I drive past my old home.

Sorry to hear that your childhood home will no longer be in your family. Thank you for sharing these memories with us. I've been a subscriber to your channel for many many years now, your videos got me through some very hard times (I was about 8 at the time, I'm now 19). I always look forward to them. It's such a melancholic feeling to see that garage empty after all these years. I'm glad you documented your last visit. That motion sensor idea is very clever, love it! All the best from Australia.

You were a very clever boy, and are an even more clever man. I hear the sadness in your presentation, and empathize with you. Leaving our historical places is always hard.

we were builders and moved from home to home as they were built so it was sad to depart a friendly familiar house and start over but after a while you realize that its the people and the fun times that matter most. farewell good house!

I could see and hear that you were feeling sad as you showed us around and told those stories. Maybe you and your wife can connect with the new family that calls that house their home and share some of your memories with them.

What a clever way to use a motion sensor and “warning” light to avoid getting caught playing video games instead of doing homework.
@DanielJaegerFilms4 жыл бұрын
Jbmorris289 I still remember planning this out like it was yesterday. The tricky part was how to purchase it without anyone knowing. I couldn’t go to the hardware store because my parents would have to take me. So I told me dad I needed to order “Christmas gifts” from Northern Tool and had to use his credit card. So he let me use it and I paid him back with cash that I made from mowing lawns. Sure, I got gifts, but also the motion sensor and clock for myself 😂
