The buildings at the end of the video looked like they were covering 3 generators with two thousand gallon fuel tanks most likely used to power the area around them. And the buildings that we visited first looked like houses that the people who operated the generators could stay in during bad weather. Thank you so much guys for watching my videos from Alaska I put a lot of work into editing them and I do it so I can look back on it in the future and for you guys too. (The information I have was not fact checked or found with any research it’s just my best guess. But if you do I find out what it is please let me know in the comments).

I’m thinking those little shacks were for a camp ground. Instead of renting a lot to set up a tent or park a trailer you rent the little rooms. And the building up by the road was the check in area

Cool generator discovery Simon. The Northern Lights gen set sure had a lot of use, you can tell by the oily crud in the generator vent screen @10:35. A lot of people over time have read the spec tag on that gen set, it's the only clean spot on it. :) Nice simple reliable generators in their day. The other two are Cummins powered Onan generators. Onan is a subsidiary of Cummins these days. Decent gen sets, but a little over engineered /complex.

I could only imagine how much this equipment plus the fuel and the man power cost while building it and the value it all has today. I would love to see it working or being put to use again because from what I’ve learned from the comments is that they still might work. Also thank you for the comment and watching the video it means a lot.

@@SimonRScott before u start make sure it has engine oil. If u can add some engine oil into the cylinder or atleast the intake. These things are sitting for long time and pistons are completely dry and if u try to even rotate them the cylinder walls will be really damaged.spray wd40 if can't find anything. Make sure it has oil pressure when it runs or immediately shut it down. These things are worth atleast 50k$ or probably even a 100k

@@SimonRScott it's a diesel engine it will start right up but if u take some preparation it will save the engine from being scraped. Running the engine without proper lubrication for 5mins will do more damage than it running with proper lubrication for 1500hrs.

it looks 3 phase generator. Notice the 3 meters. Maybe 205 volt or 440 volt. Wish they could be restored still in good shape. If the battery was there and are good it could still start even though the wires off it are cut. good find..

Yeah I completely agree that would be awesome if they ran however, a lot of the cables and cords were cut

Jump to 08:33 if you want to see the actual generator part. And there are three generators for three phases of common electrical systems.

Actually, each generator would be capable of generating all phases, weather it be single or 3 phase. The purpose of having 3 generators is redundancy. Depending on the generator sizing and their load, it could be set up where 2 generators would be required to run at maximum load and you'll have a backup in the event one fails. I believe that would be what they call N+1 redundancy. Another possibility is that a single generator can handle the load, then one can be down for maintenance and you'll still have a backup in the event the running generator fails. That would be N+2 redundancy.
