as a young person who lived in fidi right out of college - i would be aware that the area completely shuts down after working hours / is dead on the weekends! stores like chipotle & even some restaurants only cater to the working hours & it can feel like a ghost town at any other time

Yes girl 21:30 mark is my apartment complex! I got one of the renovated ones as well and every day is a dream living here. You won't regret it! The front desk is so nice too and the views from the building are out of this world! I especially love the park right out front. Also safety was huge on my checklist and i feel so safe here! Lots of moms, children, dogs etc.

If you get a 2BR and use the 2nd BR as an office, you can deduct that part of the rent from your taxable business income (has to be exclusively used for business to be legal deduction). That's what I do with my 2nd BR. Having the extra, separate space is very nice. Also, before you choose an apartment, go walk around the area at night. I've worked in buildings on lower B'way and on Wall Street and parts of the neighborhood shut down pretty early so an area that feels safe with lots of people around during the day can feel very different at night.

While I am nowhere near able to afford NYC rent I love these apartments. However, personally, I would never put $5000 a month towards an apartment that you get nothing out of once you move out. People that can afford that lifestyle are so lucky.

Or SOME simply work hard so they can afford that lifestyle. While it may not be the best for you, it doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea. Some people don’t want to buy a house, some want to but are not ready to commit to a place or to homeowner responsibilities. A person might not get a physician return from a $5,000 apartment but that doesn’t mean they can’t get important things out of it like growth, peace, memories, etc.

I mean just because you might not be getting nothing out of it doesn’t mean someone else will. Some people value experiences (living in nyc where there’s a lot of things to do) vs paying less in an area where there’s not much to do. Also she works hard to afford her lifestyle not just cause she’s “lucky”

I really love the idea of you getting a 2 bedroom! So many people convert those to closets/offices and I think it would give you so much extra room. Also I can say that it's not even worth it to not have a washer and dryer in the unit. I don't think I could ever give that up! I love your current apartment now so much!

This is what is called gentrification. Developers build luxury apartment buildings in urban areas that have been lived in for decades by moderate to lower income families. The developers try to push them out, however those residents have a right to stay.🌿

You should just ask for Swiss water processed decaf, that’s the chemical free version. A lot of coffee brands tend to highlight the ones that are Swiss water processed. If you’re out buying a cup of coffee & you ask a barista they usually know what you’re talking about.

I know you don't love the idea of living super high up, but as a photographer who lives in a high rise, I would HIGHLY recommend at least looking at some higher up units. The lighting tends to be way better the higher you get because you have less buildings blocking the sun from coming in (also being in NYC where the buildings are REALLY tall, sometimes your apartment can be above the clouds giving you good light on a dreary day).

My son just moved from West Village to FIDI...steps from Seaport.....SUCH a great area!! Bars, restaurants, the water....and wayyy more bang for your buck as far as his former spot in WV..good luck in your search!

I found your channel last year by your apartment search videos. Little did I know a little under a year I’d be going through the same process and move up here too! I get what you mean with Fidi. It’s slept on, but it needs to stay that way! For the price of a nice building in Fidi is the price of a broken down unit in WV.

I’ve lived in NYC for 7 years - I’m originally from south Florida. You only will pay a brokers fee if the apartment building has their own realtor that they work with - mostly walk up buildings. If you move into a luxury building (which you do) they actually have a leasing office so you wouldn’t have to pay a brokers fee. If you’re only looking at luxury buildings it’s actually a waste of money to use a broker because you could do everything yourself. I’ve only used brokers when I moved into normal buildings, once I moved into a luxury building I just worked with their leasing office and saved so much money

Curious, is the stuff in FiDi like restaurants and whatever open on the weekends? I only ask because I lived LA (which I know is obviously way diff) and When i was apartment hunting i was looking downtown in our financial district and the reason I didn’t end up there was because most things are closed for the weekend since the commuters/business people weren’t there. I lived in fidi when I was your age and I LOVED it! It’s does get very quiet on the weekends, so maybe go down there on a Saturday night and make sure you still feel safe. For the most part I did, but there were definitely moments when I was coming home from the bar thinking “wait, where is everyone?”
