When is it too COLD? Spearfishing Remote Arctic Norway 🇳🇴 in Winter.

The idea for this trip was to find the migratory Skrei cod that come to the north of Norway in the late winter/early spring and try and spear them. These cod get enormous, exceeding 50kg! The only problem is the water & air temperatures. Some days the air was -5ºC plus wind chill. The water was as warm as 4ºC and other times frozen on the surface. Not only were we looking for cod but also the legendary Atlantic halibut that frequent these waters.
It was after day one we realised we may have bitten off more than we could chew...

The definition of Dive Everywhere 😂 Your story telling ability never ceases to amaze me 😍 Despite only 1 fish being shot in 25 minutes I was still engaged the entire video. I don't know how you do it, but I guess that's why you're the number 1 spearfishing channel in the world! Also good to know I'm not the only one who still struggles to sleep before big dives haha I absolutely love seeing videos showing the reality behind spearfishing, I think there needs to be more videos like that rather than just killing montages! Looking forward to seeing your next masterpiece 🙂

watching your videos is what got me into spearfishing. I may not be able to dive deep or dive for very long but the feeling of being under the surface and looking back up is a unreal experience that I will never get over and I thank you for getting me interested in it. Shooting fish is great epically one you've been dreaming of but what you see while searching is what I enjoy the most.

Great video as always. Felt cold watching. Just dove key west last week and I remember thinking how easy and leisurely it was. Local guide. Only going about 15m and there were tons of fish in the box. No hot dropping on pinnacles haha. Your trip is quite the opposite end of the spectrum, but it’s a great challenge. It’s all about the hunt. Imagine the glory when you do get that Cod or Halibooot next time!

Thanks for getting this type of glorious footage. Stay at home mom of 2 here and my mouth dropped open when seeing that bait ball as it came in so focus at first I thought where is it then it focused and it was amazing. I know that moment you were waiting for, for years, was to you worthless but to me just the experience would be a great memory to hold onto. I never let my hopes get higher than I can hold onto. I’ve learned this over the years with loss and many things in life shut not working out. However, I always tell myself now even if my hopes are crushed I can’t let it ruin my day. I have watched my girls get their hopes so high I couldn’t hold on to them but instead of letting them crumble I reach ups no hold on with all I have and try to make the best out of a bad situation. Because even when times are hard or the world is become ugly I can always find beauty within.

If one is fortunate enough to have them, then one discovers that life is about experiences. Otherwise, what’s the point? Whether it’s diving in the frigid temperatures of Norwegian waters that are surrounded by stunning coastline or lying on one’s back in an open field while eye-witnessing spectacular meteor showers in South of France on a hot August night. I’ve the firsthand pleasure of the latter, and was able to enjoy (from the warmth of my flat!) your great adventure. Cheers 🍻, Daniel ! No regrets.

Daniel, a veeeeeeeeeeery old discussion back in Spearboard pointed out that pneumatic guns are a best choice over banded guns for fridgid conditions like the ones in your video. The cold does not seem to affect the phisics of compressed air as much as it affects band contraction speed. So the pneumatic guns shot more consistently. Great video!!!!
