Nice vid, but it's sad to see such big halibuts being killed in 2017/2018.. I'm from Sweden and many of us travel to Norway each year fishing for halibut, and for halibut bigger than 130cm it's always C&R to maintain the population, and we never bring them up into the boat because of the risk of spinal injuries. This is not easy for you to know, and the camp owners should have told you this. But have it in mind when traveling to new places.. and also have it in mind in your own country. Big fish are important.
@TheLasTBreHoN2 жыл бұрын
In times when humans did not have big numbers it must have been amazing. I dream of days of amazing harmonic hunting. Being in tune and being able to harvest these amazing creatures, but alas, there is just too many of us it is sad 😑 cool video tho, that must take serious skill to do! How old do you think that fish was?
@kretschkev63332 жыл бұрын
Not only that, these old and big predators accumulate a lot of other stuff like mercury in their body, as they are pretty far up in the food chain.

There is no mentioning of this in the video, but I suspect it would be a major party spoiler: There is a legal maximum limit for tourists bringning fish out of Norway. The limit is set at 20 kilogram/person for those visiting registered tourist-fishing camps. Fishing outside registered fishing-camps the limit is 10 kilogram/person. At the moment the fines for breaking the export limits are set at NOK8.000(EUR800) + NOK200(EUR20)/kilogram of fish exceeding the limit. I suspect the fines will be raising sharply in the years to come...
@linusack94555 жыл бұрын
And most registered fishing camp have a maximum size on halibut, usally around 130cm witch is around 30kg. So everyting below 80cm or above 130cm go back in the Sea. Even the fish industry in Norway throw back big halibuts, even if they are dead. I think they can get a fine if they bring them back.
@DanielMann5 жыл бұрын
Never heard of fishing lodges having different laws. Max for halibut as of today is 200cm in Norway.
@linusack94555 жыл бұрын
@@DanielMann No law. But I know a few camps that do tell their klients to try and release big fish above 130ish cm. 130+ fish is a good fish for reproduction. And they dont taste very good if they get bigger. I'm an angler though, easier to release. :) Nice video! You really got the scenery on point, it's hard to do!
@DanielMann5 жыл бұрын
I loved eating every fillet from the 76kg fish so in my experience big fish do taste good. If you know how to cook 😎
@linusack94555 жыл бұрын
@@DanielMann haha I do, and I know.. But u get my point? I have around 18kg left from my trip this year, we released 156cm, and kept some around 110 and the bigest 136cm. Got a total of 30 halibut, and kept 7. Angling though.

If you will, please convey my appreciation to your friend Guiliano, for the idea of his tomato-based sauce with scallops. As a chef, I thought it looked easy, quick, and flavorful, but had NO idea how wonderful it actually is!! From now on, that's going to be a staple on any of our dives for either scallops or crabs!! So I'm sending high compliments to Guiliano from one chef to another! Eccezionale!! e molte grazie
