You couldn't put any other GM in Danya's shoes. Sure, Magnus might even be able to understand the position a little bit better but I think Danya's ability to convert that understanding to spoken English is unmatched.

It's really funny that Twitch chat says the Queen sac was unsound. At a depth of 35 stockfish says sacking the Queen is completely equal which is absolutely terrifying. If you're white and black sacks their Queen for a minor piece and a rook then unless you're rated 2800 and have 2 hours to think then you're probably not gonna make a draw.

I loathe how many people in chess repeat what the engine says, often to imply someone else is wrong, and then believe they've contributed meaningfully to the conversation. I understand the engine is the closest thing to objectivity we have in chess, but we don't play chess like computers (which you'll know if you've ever faced a cheater; there's a "smell" to computer moves.) If you want to strive to play like a machine, I guess go for it, but my instinct is that that is folly.

I just want to say thank you for making chess content interesting. Got a lot of chess recommendations lately due to algorithm and I used to play a lot of chess when I was 12, 13 years old. I stopped playing when I reached 1400 because that was my plateau, couldnt get past 1450. I also enjoyed listening to your insights about some moves in different patterns, when you asked your chat and admitted you made mistakes.. that's just so cool to see, I never thought a GM could do mistakes against 1500s.

I know you said that you're not satisfied with your play in the opening, but honestly, these messy positions are some of the most valuable to learn from, for me at least. Seeing how you're evaluating all the threats and the timing of them is really instructive: this is the stuff in the middlegame that I think most players struggle with, and I know it's the weakest part of my game!

This is a late comment but you going in depth on the concepts to improving positionally as a player really provides clarity to some things. I think the hardest thing as a 1500 right now is still not having a set opening I play but also not knowing always when to positionally sac a piece. I’ll be back when I’m 1700
@ajaybenjamin3087
@ajaybenjamin3087 2 жыл бұрын
If I sac the exchange now, it isn't a blunder but a positional sacrifice. (But point delivered, esp with second example of the rook sac, taking out stronger bishop, cause pawn weakness, outpost of knight while defending the pawns (essentially the weakness' in an end game) and setting up a long term attack with it. First example pretty hard to see unless you have like mad time.

I also want to add that while you were analyzing with the engine, it was instructive on how to use the engine efficiently. I am like a 1700 lichess, and often when I try to to figure out lines such as the Be7 line and why they are better than the tactical lines, it is difficult. Your speedruns teach me a lot about calculating and analyzing a position without an engine. It would be cool to see more content on how to use the engine to greatest effect.

I literally paused the video for 5 minutes trying to figure out why Danya couldn't take the rook on e4 if the opponent took the bishop with his knight, then of course after not finding anything I press play and Danya is just like "my bad, it's been a long day". I was thinking of the move in previous positions too, I think he missed it for multiple moves, not that it was necessarily strong, just seemed like a candidate move for sure.

Wait, is there two max lange attacks, or did Danya mix it up with the double scotch gambit? I always thought max lange begins when after e4 e5, nf3 nc6, bc4 nf6, d4 exd4, and then after 0-0 black goes bc5 rather than take on e4 and white replies with e5. Just a nitpick, but I'd love to know since I play this with white.

Thats actually a difficult line: Bg4 Nfxd4, black knight has to take back(, otherwise Bxe2 Nxe2, and you're down a pawn, so instead) Nxd4 Qxd4 and if Bxe2 then Bf4 and there's just too much pressure on the black king, if O-O then black drops the e7 bishop, if instead of Bxe2 black plays Rd8 threatening the queen and the backrank checkmate then white has Rxe7 followed by Qb4+ and the eval says -0.3
