As a salsa teacher looking for videos to send my students this is the best all inclusive salsa beginner video that goes over everything including frame and the exact way to not get bad habits with hand position/pressure etc - I send this to everyone! Suggest turning all the chapters into short (selfishly so I can forward a short for a specific piece to my students) 🎉🎉🎉😂

The hoop idea was interesting; beginners need to keep in mind that the feet don't actually come together, one goes slightly past - as demo'd in the beginning.

Oh my goodness! I must apologize to every woman I have danced with because my hand grip and arm motion was so bad that I must have caused them so much grief. I have learned now, from watching this clear and wonderful video, that my grip and arm motion needs to be less frenetic and swinging/circular in both the closed and open positions. Why didn't the women tell me anything?!! It must have been so irritatingly confusing dancing with me. I was having fun, feeling the music without any consideration or awareness as to how badly it must have been affecting them (perhaps even hurting them). Also, I now know how to lead a lady's left turn which I look forward to trying out as soon as possible. I am going to have so much more fun tomorrow at the dance social, and I bet my partners will notice and appreciate the improvements. Sorry for being so long winded here in my comment but I am feeling very excited right now and it is thanks to your clear instruction and marvelous performance of the basic salsa patterns that everyone should know how to do properly.

Great tutorial. Muchas gracias! One question. On 22:38min., the man doesn't start with his left foot forward on the '1'. Does this have a reason? On 36:34 he does. I want to be able to explain, when someone has to start on the music ;)

Coming from a background as a musician, what I found useful was to count the basic as 1 2 3& 5 6 7& Since that's when the 'slow' step actually comes down. Counting 1 2 3 makes me want to put the foot down on 3, which for this style is early.

Great guide, but why did you choose to go forward on 1 instead of going right foot back on 1?

In Partnerwork the leader‘s step with the left forward on 1, followers back with the right, otherwise you crash into each other
