Sinner just stepping his level up recently, I feel like his rise has been more gradual than some other younger guys but he's been a top 20 player, then top ten for a while and now very much top 5. He's gradually minimising the weaknesses in his game, very much like young Djokovic did! Obviously lots of people rightly talk about Alcaraz but I can see Sinner also having an excellent career with multiple slams and possibly the no 1 ranking eventually

Sinner is ALMIGHTY. He realised he couldn’t go to net early into the first, so he decided to go to WAR with Meddy at the baseline, basically the tennis equivalent of trying to run a marathon with no legs. At the second, I can’t have been the only one with rotterdam flashbacks when sinner lost the double break. In the end though, he defied expectations and with nothing but pure willpower and grit, managed to take the trophy home. Well done Jannik for finally winning a close match like this and for being so clutch.

Sinner is a different player than he was even a few months ago. He's saving break points with aces (his serve has improved so much), he's using serve and volley much more (not today because Meddy kept beating him at it so he had to try something else). But above all, his mental fortitude is next level. He won all three tiebreaks against Medvedev in their last two matches. That says it all. Looking forward to more battles between these two mental giants.

What is really crazy is that Rotterdam was THIS YEAR. It seems years instead, at the time everyone was saying Sinner's play was good but with a lot of flaws and that he had a long way to go to be at Medvedev's level. And now, just a few months later, there he is. And he didn't even play a perfect match, a "once in a lifetime" one. No. He made mistakes, but he showed an incredible grit and was able to defeat Medvedev at his own game. Really impressive.

Not the case. He dedicated fully to tennis at 13 but only didn't play tennis for 1 year between 3 and 13 (7 to 8)- from Wikipedia- "Sinner began both skiing and playing tennis at age three. He was one of Italy's top junior skiers from eight to twelve years old, While training in skiing, Sinner gave up tennis for a year at the age of seven before his father pushed him to return to the sport. At the age of thirteen, Sinner decided to give up skiing and football in favour of tennis."

Great job from Sinner! I think the key factor in both of the matches he won against Meddy is his mental toughness. He was able to prevail in two super tight matches in a final! Today, he turned the first set around when he was losing with a break as well as from 5:6 0-30 from second serve. He managed to always find ways to bounce back and stay composed in crucial moments while Medvedev missing his chances by being extra passive and letting Sinner crush the ball comfortably. That open-court miss in the final game was really unfortunate for Daniil as it potentially costed him a title. All in all, a great rivalry so far and hope we will see more clashes from these two.

Everyone has been saying that he’s a serious contender for a hard court grand slam next year. Absolutely agree, but would also put him on the list for Wimbledon. After all, he made semis this year.

Honestly, am so happy at how well Sinner is doing. He’s been my favourite player on tour for a while now and it’s great to see him getting these titles now against the very best. He can beat Alcaraz and Medvedev now, I’d love to see a match between him and Nole. I’m not saying that Sinner would win, but I think he has improved in leaps and bounds even since Wimbledon, and I’d love to see him against the very best of the best.

Insane final. The decider was that 20minute long game in the third. Also Daniil should have converted the lead 40:15 when he was at the net. But he will learn and be better next time. Congrats to Jannik for really stepping up at this time of the season and hopefully continues like this from now on. Danya ❤ Jannik 🎉

I’m about ready to say Sinner will win a grand slam next year. Sure, he struggles a little against Zverev, Medvedev, Djokovic as elite counterpunchers, but at a certain point he’s just hitting the ball too hard for them to handle, like Medvedev here. He’s added a lot to his game and will likely be even better next year. Maybe needs a bit more work on the conditioning, but I think Sinner can win one of the hard court majors next year.

Sinner has no doubt made improvements, and beating both Alcaraz and Medvedev twice this year is a step in the right direction. However, as we know, winning in best of five format is a completely different challenge, and Sinner remains unproven. With his endurance still in question, winning 7 bo5 matches against the best players would be a big ask.
@SJ-di5zu

@@aiylacarsonIt’s possible the surface is what’s benefitting him right now, but I just feel like he’s playing great tennis regardless of surface. I don’t think he’s been noticeably better or worse on indoor hard vs outdoor hard throughout his career. He will need to use more of his net game outdoors though. Slower surfaces = points are harder to finish, so you have to be able to come to net.

Easily one of the best matches of the year. It’s one of those matches where you don’t remember the unforced errors; it seemed like nothing but winners. Loved both since each blasted onto the scene. Didn’t know who to root for, so just sat back and watched them smack the hell out of the ball.

Some used to compare Sinner to Berdych who can hit powerful groundstrokes but lacks a plan B. Under coach Cahill, he has definitely improved his volleys, and started incorporating the slice (could do it even more often). Darren even told Sinner in this very match to avoid one-pace rallies (which help Medvedev's rhythm) and try to mix it up. Having more variety and options in rallies would also help with his unforced errors, as they can pile up when he tries to win with pure pace or is feeling it physically. The scary part is that Sinner's game seems effective on all surfaces and there's still room for improvement. E.g. Medvedev's deep return position meant he didn't exploit Sinner's relatively weaker 2nd serve, but someone like Djokovic can and has. Perhaps why people mention Jannik's mentality is that despite a 10-3 record in finals, his win rate against Top 10 wasn't the best until this year (lower than all of Alcaraz, Rune, Medvedev, Zverev and Tsitsipas). But again this is changing. Most notably, Sinner has had quite a few close quality matches with Carlos and seems to have a style that troubles the Spaniard. Now Boris Becker has started working with Rune who I hope becomes a major threat again after his recent back pains. Although it's still a couple of years away, I feel as Djokovic inches closer to retirement, these are the 3 who will dominate the tour along with perhaps Medvedev if the Russian maintains his longevity as the Big 3 did.
