Danish Army 1940 for Bolt Action

In this video, I showcase my 10 dice, 860 point (could be expanded or contracted) Danish Army for 9 April 1940. The figures are all from Great Escape Games, link below, with the exception of the special immobilized marker of Mr. Olafssen, who I believe is from Col.Bill miniatures (?).

Great Escape Games has a lot of interesting World War II 28mm figures and a lot of other wargaming lines. Their shipping and prices aren't off the charts horrible for those of us living on the dark side of the planet or in the lower hemisphere.

Thanks, Cal. Another eagle-eyed commenter pointed out that there is a list in the Germany Strikes book. I've looked at it and it's pretty similar to what I came up with but the special rule is a real tough one; the Germans get d3 units with a free run move at the beginning of the game. All I can hope for is my mate has no vehicles and gets a 1. lol

Very cool subject and you did a great job at painting and presenting these minis. I wish there were some Danish things in 1/35 scale available. As far as i can tell there is not much out there, if anything. Makes me envious!

Thank you very much, Michael. I'm surprised there aren't some Danes in 1/35 scale, like garage kits or something. I guess the late war stuff and drawing board vehicles are all the rage. Here in the hobby shops there are a lot of the Pnzr VII or 1946/47 'what if' kits.

I do love the Danish WW2 army, i did a fan-made armylist for those for Battlegroup. Been looking at these models for a while, but somehow i feel the heads are a bit thin. Nice video!

Thanks for checking out the video. The heads are reminiscent of their older Romanians and aren't as bulky as their original Greeks (don't know about the new Greeks). They aren't big chunky detailed faces for sure. The officer with the short arm and the thinness of the rifles were the things that really stood out for me while painting them.

School bus with an lmg team strolling past, bizarre. Great looking force, lovely work. I must get some GEG figures, currently deciding which of their Italians to try out. You thought of trying Chain of Command? There are all sorts of army lists for that made by gamers. The Lardies however are frustratingly slow at publishing lists themselves, been talk of a Far East book for over two years now.

The GEG figures are getting better I think. They do sell other manufacturers on their site too. My Japanese paratroopers were company B and the quality wasn't as good as these guys, the Greeks or the few Stalingrad Germans I did. I've watched a lot of CoC games online, but learning the rules and then trying to explain them to my mates when we only get 2 or 3 games in a year, and are usually a few drinks in by the time we start might be too difficult. When this collective fit of insanity is over and time is available, I'll give it a go.

Sorry for getting back to this comment so late. I finished all the figures for this army, so I don't think I'll be making a tutorial on how to paint these particular troops but I can make a tutorial on painting the colors I used on other figures. I have the Polish Uprising guys that I'm working on now and I could try and make a tutorial using them as a proxy.

You're right! I got the book down and found it on p. 41. Nice memory, man! lol. I had forgotten all about it.They even had painting reference too. The army special rule is a real handicap though; d3 opposing units get free run moves before the game even kicks off. ouch.

Hi there. I have been wanting a Danish army since that movie got out, but I have to admit, I wasn't really sold on the miniatures when I saw the Kickstarter. The one thing that really irks me is the hands. They seem giant compared to the heads. It might just be me though. I do go to check them out from time to time, but I always end up with thinking, nope - not for me. Also the details on the models seems a little clunky and not very refined for 28mm..

Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment. The issue I had with them when I was painting them was that the rifle barrels were really thin and fragile. I had to repair quite a few. The sculpt of the officer is kind of messed up too as he has like T-Rex arms. Compared to the other GEG 28mm figures for WWII, the sculpts were OK, but not their best. So far, my favorite has been the Romanians, which I wasn't a fan of at first, but I really got into them. I have the Bulgarians in the queue now, but they are after 3 Bolt Action armies, a bunch of Gauls and some other stuff.

I was very disappointed with the Danes in ww2 !! 😔 .... i was expecting viking longboats being pushed into the german lines with crazed dudes jumping out with there dane axes yelling and screaming !! 😅

The Danes were like a Benny Hill episode by most accounts that Tuesday morning. I just picture them all cycling around saluting each other with their caps on sideways slapping old guys on the top of the head while the Germans secured the radio stations, police stations and pubs. lol
