I agree with Mom that keeping stuff in the original containers is the best way to go, especially since the container you are putting stuff into is too small to contain all the contents of the original, so you end up having to figure out where to keep TWO containers instead of just one. A note on the medication: I would NOT keep them above the stove! Heat degrades the effectiveness of vitamins/medication! (I would not keep my spices there either, for the same reason.)

So I'm an on again off again subscriber (as my mood for decluttering and organization waxes and wanes) Though I'm here for the long haul now. Great job, Robin! I'd suggest, if you wanted to keep the dishes that are in the tub, put them where you put the puzzles and put the puzzles out of the kitchen or put them in the tub but out of the kitchen. Non related food items out of the kitchen. Here's something I've tried...if I think I still like something but am not currently using it, put a sticky note on it with a date (could be a year out...maybe more if needed). Next time you clean that area (say it's quite a while) if you haven't used it, you need to get rid of it because it just shows you it wasn't important to begin with or you'd use it. That helps me so much when it's hard to get rid of something I have a hard time letting go of. Good luck.

I'm with your mom on keeping stuff in it's original container haha! It let's you know what the best by date is and I found that the containers from the store always had more volume than the fancy aftermarket ones so then I have to store a 1/4 full spice jar anyway haha!

You and your mom crack me up! A warning regarding medications and supplements- they should be stored AWAY from the stove- the heat can do one of 2 things- deteriorate or increase the strength of the medication and supplements- look at how to store properly on the back of the bottles. My mom had about 20 sets of dish ware NOT including MATCHING serve ware. And let’s not start with all the Christmas trees and decor, she had the following artificial trees (3 each in different sizes): scotch pine, flocked tree, gold, silver, blue, white, and pre-lit scotch pine and flocked- those were just trees- 24 total, then there were the coordinating ornaments, lights, toppers, tree skirts, etc. Mom also had about 6 sets of cookware and bakeware. Even her fridge and freezers were hoarded- if she saw one empty spot she had to fill it. We went through the entire 1500sqft house and 1500sqft basement and it took months, let alone the 5 huge closets where she hoarded just her clothes. You didn’t see the hoarding unless you opened up closet and cabinet doors, her house was meticulously clean otherwise.

I loved seeing you two pull the wishbones. We used to do that when I was growing up, mostly with turkey bones from Thanksgiving & Christmas. There were 4 kids in our family, so Mom would save the bones & whenever there were 2 sets, my siblings & I would do the wish thing. Haven't thought about that in years but it's a fun memory. Yay, Mom's back! AND a sweet puppy? She is adorable!!! I think my clutter zone is the house. I would love to have that cubby above the stove. I'm getting a whole bunch of cast iron cleaned and seasoned and need a different place to store them, now that they will be usable. I'd absolutely put the most used pans there for quick access. Seasonings on a lazy Susan would be my next choice, but I don't like the idea of something falling off the shelf into what I'm cooking. Seasoning and I have a history. They like to attack. Mom with chips 2 Danni 0 I have the same amount of pudding and it's all for baking, lol. Your Mom and I are on the same wavelength there. I'm Team Mom on seasonings. Your set looks amazing and I love seeing it, but I couldn't keep it up. I read somewhere that chefs don't use the fancy jars either. They just keep them in what they came in. I WISH I could use the fancy jars. I DID try once. Failed, but learned the way I work, so that was a good lesson. Y'all find chicken bones like we find old perfume. And then you find perfume! It's a bit scary, but fun. Will it stink? Will it smell good? In the under sink area, think about those screwed down pull out drawer thingy's. Mother loved hers. It made the back of the cabinet easier to access. Dishes, yes! I've been waiting for those dishes to reappear. "Are you seriously going to go through all that stuff?" Yes, we are living for it! Those are treasures. We have a family sick bell that has been passed down. I am a little worried about you going for the green vase and brass critters. Hello, 1970's. BEGS! Mom, you did such a great job! I'm so glad y'all are laughing your way through it together. It make the best memories. It was fun "hanging out" with y'all!

Danni I commented on your kitchen de clutter that if you have a closet that's close to the kitchen use that for a pantry and also stand alone cabinets store bought. This automatically frees the kitchen cabinets just for dishes and such. Keeping the food out of the cabinets is so much easier and a less cluttered space. This works!

LOVE THIS!!!! Because we dont technically have a pantry we have to use some of the cabinets for food/beverages and its a pain! I wonder how much a stand alone cabinet would be, because that would be AMAZING!!! We dont have a closet near the kitchen, well we have the entry way closet but its AWFUL! Like the most dysfunctional closet EVER! I think my house is dysfunctional 😆 I wish we had a nice closet near the kitchen because that would be ideal! Funny! I gotta agree with Mom about the spices. It seems to me when you take them out of the original container, you lose the out date date, you lose the text on what all you can use the spice for, you lose the brand name and the quality isn't always the same, and when you add on top, you might be adding new spice to old spice...etc...My husband always wanted to buy the huge containers at Sam's, but, I have had to throw some of it away because it gets stale before you can use it all.

On the spices, make sure you transfer the expiration dates. It just seems like too much work to dump it from one to another jar and write on the new expiration date. As a minimalist , I have six spices.
